The transmitter 2 is connected to the main transmitter. The main transmitter is powered via a
15 V power supply and its switches are set on Continuous and OFF, respectively (then its
transmitting member is cut off and only the transmitter 2 is powered).
The receiver is positioned in the circular recess closest to the transmitter (radius = 15 cm) in
which it can be moved. It is located in the right portion. It is connected by means of a
shielded cable to the vertical input of the oscilloscope.

 Definitions
On the above schematic, the symbols have the following meanings:
 Measurements :
Different values are assigned to i by moving the transmitter in its guide and the position to be
given to the transmitter in order to obtain the direction of the radiation reflected on the mirror
is determined.
This direction is obtained by determining the receiver position on the arc of circle that yields
the highest amplitude for the received signal.
The oscilloscope settings are 0.1 V/div for vertical amplification and on 0.1 msec/div for
horizontal sweep.
To perform correct measurements, proceed as follows:
Note: The presence of other peaks (with lower amplitudes) is observed. This is due to
complex phenomena called « diffraction phenomena».
