1 Directivity of ultrasonic waves
Introduction: The purpose of the experiment is to demonstrate the directional effect of
ultrasonic waves and to define the notion of « sound radiation ».
1.1 Step 1: Setup

The transmitter is connected to a 15V power supply. It is set at its maximum transmission
level and operated in Continuous mode. It is positioned at the centre O of the arc-shaped
recess and it transmits ultrasonic waves towards the graduation zero.
The receiver is positioned in the circular recess closest to the transmitter (radius = 15 cm) in
which it can be moved. It is connected by means of a shielded cable to the vertical input of
the oscilloscope.

