3 Interference of ultrasonic waves
Introduction: The purpose of the experiment is to conduct an interference experiment with
ultrasonic waves and to compare the experimental measurements obtained with the
theoretical results derived from the wave model of the phenomenon.
3.1 Step 1: Setup
 The system is set up as follows:
The transmitter 2 is positioned on a magnetic support inclined at 45 deg. This special
position is necessary to achieve short distances between the two transmitters. Thus they
contact each other in their smallest spacing (2 cm).
The transmitter 2 is connected to the main transmitter. The main transmitter is powered via a
15 V power supply and its switches are set on Continuous and OFF, respectively (its
transmitting element is then cut off and only the transmitter 2 is powered).
The receiver is positioned in the circular recess closest to the transmitter (radius = 15 cm) in
which it can be moved. It is positioned on the zero graduation. It is connected by means of a
shielded cable to the vertical input of the oscilloscope.
