For horizontal roughing work the operator must hold
the machine firmly against his hip. This will absorb
recoil forces.
Scraping tool
The quality of scraping work depends on the choice of
the right tool.
Machining of every workpiece begins with pre-
scraping or rough scraping when a scraping machine
is used.
In this operation, small bearing points can still be
disregarded. A blade with a big radius is therefore
used to enable work to proceed rationally. Blades with
a big radius also have a large surface of attack with
which a broad scraping pass is obtained. After
scraping and spotting the surface several times, more
and more bearing points will appear. The blade radius
must now be reduced to enable individual bearing
points to be machined effectively.
When scraping machine casting, grey cast iron, brass,
bronze and carbide, a distinction is made between
high chip removal or low chip removal because the
surface is already almost smooth.
In the latter case, the scraping blade or carbide insert
supplied by BIAX with a negative angle of 3.5° can be
used unchanged (cutting angle for normal scraping
work). The more negative the blade angle, the
smoother the scraping pattern will be and the fewer
the number of grooves which occur.
However, if the operator is working e.g. on the
machine bed (made of grey cast iron) of a large
machine which is deformed by several 10
millimetre, the blade cutting edge should be ground to
a negative figure of 0-1°. This will permit greater
material removal.
Tool changing
Caution!
Before changing the tool, always
isolate the machine from the power
supply or compressed air network!
Caution!
Do
not
leave
position! Make sure that all the
spanners have been removed before
starting work!
Use only undamaged fork spanners which are a good
fit for tool changing; otherwise, the scraper may be
damaged.
Use the spanner supplied with the machine
accessories.

Caution!
When adjusting the rotational speed,
always hold the machine away from
your body.

Stroke adjustment

Caution!
Before adjusting the stroke, always
isolate the machine from the power
supply or compressed air network!
Caution!
Do not leave the stroke adjustment
spanner in place! Before starting
work, make sure that all the spanners
have been removed.
Stroke adjustment is identical for Types BS-40M, BL-
40M, BL-10M, DL-40. The tool must be brought into
the foremost position. In this position, the adjusting
screw is visible at the bottom of the housing.
Use the SW6 spanner supplied to adjust the stroke.
Turning clockwise increases the stroke; turning anti-
clockwise decreases it. The bores in the stroke
gearbox help to bring the adjusting screw to the
correct position.

The
requisite
working
speed varies according to
the tool diameter and the
desired
scraping
speed
(depending on the type of
tool). The adjusting wheel
at the back is used to set
the rotational speed. This
adjustment
is
made
electronically.
