4 .6 PRESS-IN IN MODE
NON-CONDUCTIVE MATERIALS
WARNING
Improper operation of footswitch
Death, serious injury or material
damage
Do not hold the foot permanent-
ly on the footswitch.
Do not move the foot to the
footswitch as long as there are
body parts or foreign objects
between the tool holders.
Remove foot from footswitch
after pressing footswitch.
WARNING
Use of irregularly shaped
workpieces
Serious injury or material damage
Only use flat, plate-shaped
workpieces.
Warning
Exceeding the allowed force for
tool holder J-frame
Minor injury or material damage
When using the J-frame,
never exceed the maximum
allowed press-in force of 40 kN
(9000 lb).
Remove the J-frame before
using a press-in force greater
than 40 kN (9000 lb).
This mode is used when the
workpiece is made of an electrically
non-conductive material, such
as fibreglass, plastic or anodized
aluminium.
The hole in the workpiece for the
self-clinching fastener is to be made
by laser or punching. The exact
dimensions of the hole depend
on the self-clinching fastener and
are available in the HONSEL
self-clinching fasteners catalogue.

Precondition:
The machine is switched on, see chapter 4.1.
The workpiece has a hole for the self-clinching
fastener.
The function of safety system was tested
successfully, see chapter 3.3.
The machine is set up, see chapter 3.8.
The desired tool is installed in both tool
holders.
1. Set the Selection Switch Operation/Setup to
Operation.
2. Insert the associated key into the Key Switch
Operating Mode.
3. Turn the Key Switch Operating Mode with the
key to Non-Conductive Materials depending on
the material of the workpiece.
4. Place the workpiece on the lower tool so that
the hole is approximately in the middle of the
lower tool.
5. Place the self-clinching fastener on the hole of
the workpiece.
6. Keep hands away from both tool holders.
7. Press and hold the Down Footswitch.
The upper tool holder moves down and
»
stops in front of the self-clinching fastener.
8. Press again the Down Footswitch until the
upper tool touches the self-clinching fastener.
The pressing-in process starts.

When the press-in time is over, the upper
»
tool holder returns to its starting position.
9. Inspect result of the pressing-in process.
10. If the result is not adequate, start setup again.
4 .7 PRESS-IN WITH AUTOMATIC FEED
SYSTEM - CONDUCTIVE MATERIALS
Precondition:
The machine is switched on, see chapter 4.1.
The workpiece has a hole for the self-clinching
fastener.
The function of safety system was tested
successfully, see chapter 3.3.
The machine is set up, see chapter 3.7.
The desired tool is installed in both tool
holders.
1. Switch on the automatic feed system with the
Switch On/Off on the operating unit of the
automatic feed system, see chapter 2.4.9.2.
LED On on the operating unit of the

automatic feed system lights green.
2. Set up automatic feed system, see chapter
3.11.
3. Perform step 1 to 4 according to chapter 4.5.
4. Keep hands away from both tool holders.
5. Press and hold the Down Footswitch until the
upper tool touches the self-clinching fastener.
The pressing-in process starts.

When the press-in time is over, the upper

tool holder returns to its starting position.
