Before setup, the necessary
press-in force and the necessary
press-in time must be determined
from the manufacturer's instructions
for the self-clinching fastener.
For setup, a workpiece and a
self-clinching fastener are required.
1. Set the Selection Switch Operation/Setup to
Setup.
2. Insert the associated key into the Key Switch
Operating Mode.
3. Turn the Key Switch Operating Mode with the
key to Conductive Materials.
4. Keep hands away from both tool holders.
5. Press the Down Footswitch until the upper tool
touches the lower tool.
6. Press and hold the Down Footswitch while
turning the Rotary Knob Press-In Force until
the Indicator Pressure and Force shows the
necessary press-in force.
7. Release the Down Footswitch.
8. Press the Up Footswitch until the workpiece
and the self-clinching fastener can be easily
inserted.
9. Set the Selection Switch Operation/Setup to
Operation.
10. Set the necessary press-in time via the
Rotary Knob Press-In Time (not applicable for
machine S-416 Plus).
11. Place the workpiece on the lower tool so that
the hole is approximately in the middle of the
lower tool.
12. Place the self-clinching fastener on the hole of
the workpiece.
13. Keep hands away from both tool holders.
14. Press and hold the Down Footswitch until the
upper tool touches the self-clinching fastener.
The pressing-in process starts.

When the press-in time is over, the upper
»
tool holder returns to its starting position.
15. Inspect result of the pressing-in process.
16. If the result is not adequate, start setup again.
17. If the set starting position is not optimal, use
the Rotary Knob Starting Position to change
the starting position of the upper tool holder.
The machine is set up.

3 .8 SETUP FOR NON-CONDUCTIVE
MATERIALS
This mode is used when the
workpiece is made of an electrically
non-conductive material, such
as fibreglass, plastic or anodized
aluminium.
Precondition:
The machine is switched on, see chapter 4.1.
The desired tool is installed in both tool
holders.

7. Release the Down Footswitch.

machine S-416 Plus).
11. Place the workpiece on the lower tool so that

the workpiece.

The upper tool holder moves down and
