Regularly check the chain oil level.
Î
Arrange for the chain to be sharpened regularly by
Î
a service centre.
Once yearly, arrange for the tool to be inspected
Î
and serviced by a service centre.

Sharpening the chain

You must sharpen or replace the chain at regular
intervals in order to ensure that the chainsaw works
as effectively as possible. Follow these instructions
to sharpen the saw correctly:
Use a 4.5 mm round file and a file holder or guide
Î
to sharpen the chain. This ensures that you al-
ways achieve the correct sharpening angle.
Place the file holder flat on the upper plate and
Î
the depth limiter of the teeth.
When filing the top plate [A], keep the file guide at
Î
the correct angle of 30° so that it is parallel to the
chain (file at an angle of 60° from the chain when
viewed from the side) S.
Sharpen the teeth on one side of the chain first.
Î
File each tooth by working from the inside to the
outside. Then turn the saw over and repeat the
process for the teeth on the opposite side of the
chain.
Note
Use a flat file to file the tips of the small
struts (parts of the chain links in front of the
teeth). The spacing should be approximately
0.635 mm T .
Ensure that all teeth are the same length. If there
Î
is any damage on the chrome surface of the top
or side plates, file it down until the damage is
removed U .
Note
Every time you sharpen the chain it loses
some of its ability to reduce kickback, so
you need to take extra care when working
with the chainsaw. It is recommended that a
chain is sharpened no more than four times.

Replacing the chain

You must replace the chain at regular intervals in
order to ensure that the chainsaw works as effec-
tively as possible.
Do so by removing the worn cutting chain and
installing a new manufacturer-approved chain – see
section "Installation".
Cleaning
After each use, clean the tool with a damp cloth
Î
or, in the event of heavy soiling, with a brush,
paying particular attention to the ventilation slots.
Carefully clean the chain after each use.
Î
Clean the whole area under the sprocket cover
Î
after each use.
Regularly clean the oil guidance groove (chain
Î
running groove) on the bar using a soft brush.
36
After use, spray the chain with conditioning oil to
Î
ensure a long service life. Where possible, use an
environmentally friendly lubricant.
Attention!
Never spray the device with water or a pressure
washer.

Transport and storage

Risk of injuries due to the cutting tool.
¾ Before transport or storage, switch off
the device and wait until the cutting tool
comes to a standstill.
¾ Activate the chain brake, remove the
power pack and fit the protective cover
before transport or storage.
Storage
Perform cleaning and servicing work before
Î
storage.
Store the tool in a dry location out of the reach of
Î
children.
When storing, ensure that no chain lubricating oil
Î
can run out.
Place the tool in an as horizontal as possible posi-
Î
tion with the oil tank closure facing upwards.
If storing for longer periods (4 weeks or more), re-
Î
move the chain lubricating oil, to prevent gumming
up of the lube oil pump.
Store the power pack and tool separately.
Î
Store the power pack in a cool and dry loca-
Î
tion. Recommended storage temperature ap-
prox. 0–23°C.
Keep the device and especially its plastic com-
Î
ponents away from brake fluids, petrol, mineral
oil containing products, penetrating oils etc. They
contain chemical substances that can damage,
attack or destroy the plastic components of the
device.
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain
Î
substances that may have a highly corrosive
effect on the metal parts of the tool. Therefore do
not store your tool near to these substances.
