The LED on the fax accessory illuminates after the MFP boots This
LED remains on, but may turn off for a brief period (one second) after
a fax is sent or received. If the LED fails to illuminate by the time the
printer is ready, it could indicate a fax accessory malfunction or that
the fax accessory connector is not properly seated in the formatter fax
connector, or may have bent pins.
If the LED fails to illuminate after a few seconds, either the fax card
is not installed correctly or the fax card has failed and should be
replaced.

Problem
The fax accessory is
installed but the icon
is not displayed on
the MFP main screen.

Cause
HP MFP Digital Sending
Software Configuration utility
has disabled the analog fax
feature.
The accessory is not
operating correctly.
Faulty formatter board.
Solution
Use the HP MFP Digital Sending
Software Configuration utility to
enable the analog fax feature.
Check the fax accessory status,
see "Checking fax accessory
status" on page 59. If the status is
NON-OPERATIONAL, new
firmware may need to be installed.
If the status is DAMAGED and you
just installed the card, try reseating
the card and check for bent pins,
see "Installing/replacing the fax
accessory in the
HP LaserJet 9040/9050mfp" on
page 3.
If the status is DAMAGED and the
card is installed correctly, the card
may need to be replaced.
