AC motor
• The mains voltage must be 220-240 V~ / 50 Hz.
• Extension cables up to 25 m in length must have a
cross section of at least 1,5 mm² , above 25 m at
least 2,5 mm²
• Mains fuse protection is 16 Amps slow-blow.
In accordance with safety regulations, the motor is
equipped with a switch featuring an integrated pro-
tective circuitbreaker, which cuts off the current in the
event of
overload.
3-phase motor
• 3-phase motor
• The turning direction of 3-phase motors must be
checked when they are connected for the first time
or if they are relocated. If necessary the polarity
must be changed with the phase inverter, Fig. "K"
• The mains voltage must be 400V, 50Hz.
• Extension cables must have a minimum cross
section of 1.5 mm².
• Mains connection and extension cables must be
5-core with CEE equipment connector and CEE
coupling.
• The mains connection must be protected with a
max. 16 A fuse.
The 230V and 400V electrical motors are designed for
S6 / 40% operation. In the event of an overloading the
motor will switch itself off. After a cool-down period
(time varies) the motor can be switched back on again.
Overload may be caused by the following:
• longer-duration blockage of the knife disc
• alternately switching on/off of the motor in rapid
succession
If the cutter blade is jammed by branches or
other chopped garden waste, the electrical motor
must be switched off immediately via the ON/OFF
switch. Do not wait until the motor circuit breaker
has tripped.
• Pull out the mains plug!
• Open the top part of the housing.
• Rectify the cause of the blockage (overload).
• Refit the top part of the housing in accordance with
instructions. Screw safety screws all the way in!
• Reconnect to the mains and switch the motor on
again after a brief cool-down time.

Putting into operation

Observe safety notes before putting into opera-
tion.
The machine may only be operated with fully moun-
ted protection and infeed system.

Your BIOSTAR can only be started when the top of
the housing is correctly closed.
The butterfly nut is simultaneously the nut which fas-
tens the upper and lower housing unit together and
the security nut for the starting safeguard.
In tightening the butterfly nut to the stud (1), contact is
made to the circuit breaker and the circuit closer.
The motor starts when the on-button is pressed.

If the butterfly nut is not quite screwed in or the
housing is open, the electric circuit is interrupted by
the starting safeguard. In pressing the on-button, the
motor should not start.
The original safety screws must not be replaced by
any other screws!
Switching on/off
• The machine can be switched on by pressing the
button to „I".
• In order to switch the machine off again, press the
button to „0".
Motor braking unit
The BIOSTAR is fitted with an automatic motor bra-
king unit which becomes effective as soon as the dri-
ving motor is switched off.

Operating instructions

Excellent work results require wellsharpened blades.
Please note:
Dull blades reduce cutting capacity and impair work
performance!
Reduced intake is a certain sign for dull blades.
The motor overheats and it triggers the overload pro-
tection.
See maintenance for the changing and sharpening of
blade.

Always switch on the motor first!
• We recommend: Wear work gloves, goggles and
ear protection.
• Watch for stones and earth when collecting the ma-
terial.
• Do not put hard objects such as stones, glass, me-
tal parts etc. into your garden shredder.
• Earth wears the cutting blades down fast and
should therefore be removed from the material.
• Do not put roots with adhering earth into your gar-
den shredder.
• Wood such as tree cutting etc. requires sharp bla-
des and should be shredded separatly to prolong
the service life of the knives.
• Feed branches in thick end first and push them onto
the downstroke part of the knife disc if possible
(kickback).
• Pull the material back forcefully, counteracting the
automatic pull of the machine, in order to avoid kil-
ling the motor when the speed reduces.
• Freshly cut wood requires less force, so large dia-
meter cuttings can be shredded easily.
• Hedge cuttings must be fed in gradually. Some ty-
pes tend to jam. Push them in with a long piece of
wood.
• Shrubs tend to be woody and require sharp blades.
• Bark is easy to shred when damp. We recommend
gradual shredding.
• If you want finer shredded results, put the shredded
material back into the shredder a second time.
• Paper should be shredded damp and rolled up. Re-
move the metal staples from cardboard boxes.
• Vegetable waste is normally easy to shred, but may
stick due to moisture.
