5.10 Behind-the-spokes placement

Split Weight Mode
The behind-the-spokes placement mode (HWM) allows
to split balance weights that, according to the machine,
would have to be fi tted in a visible position that probably
the client would not like.
With the SWM Mode instead, two weights, equivalent
to the fi rst one, are placed behind the closest spokes
(see example, Figure 5-31).
After a measuring run the electronics calculates the
behind–the–spokes placement automatically and
reads the relative balance weight locations on the
screen.
The operating steps for the behind–the–spokes
placement mode are described and illustrated below.
5.10.1 Selecting the Hidden Weight
Mode
The behind–the–spokes placement mode is activated
with key (A,Fig. 5-32) intheBALANCING screen.
Weights can be positioned behind the spokes in the
Alu 2, Alu 2P, Alu 3 and Alu 3P (hidden compensation
weight) balancing modes and can be selected in these
spheres as required.
Note:
The "Hidden Weight" selection key (A) is only active
after the number of spokes have been entered using
the (B key).
How to proceed
After this run, in the BALANCING screen:
— Use key (19,Fig. 5-27) to select the number of
spokes relevant to the wheel being processed (if
not already entered). Each time the key is pressed
there is an increment.
The key (B) displays the indication: number of spokes
set.
The number of spokes can vary from 3 to 12.
— Rotate the wheel so that one of the spokes is directly
perpendicular above the chuck shaft (Figure 5-33,
arrow).
