Um das Boot zu schonen, sollte man das An- und Ablegen unter
Segel üben. Das Ablegen ist unproblematisch. Man kann dem
Boot einfach einen Schubs geben. Zum Anlegen muß man brem-
sen, weil man sonst mit voller Wucht auf das Ufer aufläuft, was
das Boot beschädigen könnte.
Ein Segelboot wird gebremst, indem man die Segel voll auffiert
und den Bug in den Wind dreht. Die Segel flattern und erzeugen
keinen Vortrieb mehr.
Wenn man genügend mit dem Boot vertraut ist, wird man sich
Aufgaben stellen und bestimmte Punkte ansteuern oder um
Wendemarken segeln. Finden sich zwei Modellsegler ein, so ist
rasch eine gewisse Regatta - Atmosphäre geschaffen, die für
zusätzliche Spannung sorgt.

sailing boats exhibit a lack of directional stability because of the
asymmetrical effect of the wind, and you will need to correct the
course with the rudder from time to time.
To avoid damaging the boat, practise setting off and heaving to
under sail. Setting off presents no problem - you can simply give
the boat a push. To heave to you have to slow the boat down,
otherwise it will run into the bank at full tilt, which might cause
damage.
A sailing boat is braked by running the sails up fully and turning
the bow into the wind. The sails will flutter and stop producing
thrust.
Once you feel familiar with the boat, you will naturally want to set
yourself tasks, perhaps steering towards particular points, or sai-
ling round turn markers. When two model skippers meet, you will
find that a friendly, competitive regatta atmosphere soon builds
up, which will add considerably to the excitement.
