Maintenance
Sheets for pH range of solution. If the pH is outside
of the range the solution should be replaced.
!
nOTE: It is suggested that you change the
distilled water at the same time that you change
the polypropylene Glycol, if equipped with a HXA
pumping Station. See Decommissioning Section
for polypropylene Glycol removal from system.
!
nOTE: If there are any air bubbles in the flow
meter it can be an indication of a leak in the Solar
Loop pumping Station or the air separator is func-
tioning incorrectly. If there is some air accumulat-
ed, open the air separator long enough to release
the air. Then run the system for a little while and
open it again to ensure that all of the air has been
removed.
Check the pressure Relief Collection Containers
on both pumping stations. In normal operation
these containers should not have any liquid pres-
ent but if there is contact your local Service Techni-
cian to check the pressure Relief Valves and the
overall operation of the system.

The thermometers should be checked to ensure
that they are reading correctly, they can be eas-
ily replaced, if required. The thermometers are
inserted into the body of the ball valve below and
can be removed by simply pulling the dial out of
the valve handle. (Figure 23) It should be ensured
that when a thermometer is removed, it is replaced
by an identical thermometer. please observe the
color label:

Expansion Tanks
on a yearly basis perform a visible inspection of
both the Solar Loop and HXA expansion tanks for
any exterior signs of wear or damage.
To inspect the diaphragm briefly actuate the ni-
trogen valve, located on the bottom of the tank. If
nitrogen is released the tank is still in working or-
der. If some of the liquid is released the diaphragm
has a leak or has failed. The tank will need to be
replaced.
If either of the expansion tanks need to be re-
placed, reduce the temperature and pressure in
the system, isolate the tank, drain the fluid and re-
place. (The same procedure can be used to disas-
semble the system.)
Storage Tanks
A visible inspection of the Storage Tanks, insula-
tion, the insertion of the temperature probe(s) and
the tightness of the fittings should be done on a
yearly basis.
on a bi-annual basis the anodes within the tank
will need to be replaced to ensure the maximum
life and efficiency of the Solar Storage Tank. The
system has been equipped with 2 replacement
anodes.

1.
Turn off the power or fuel to your Back-up Wa-
ter Heating System.
2.
Turn off power to the Solar Water Heater Sys-
tem.
3.
Allow the water in both tanks to cool.
