General

Installation and service by qualivied personnel only

1.1 Use

Electronic switching device for the automatic, level-dependent
control of one (Control 1) or two (Control 2) submersible motor-
driven pumps of the WILO-Drain series.
The WILO-Drain Control switching devices are not explosion-proof
and may only be installed outside the potentially explosive area.
They may however be used to control explosion-proof pumps.
The fitting and operating instructions are written for a 2-pump
control. They also apply accordingly to controlling a single pump.

Safety

The safety provisions are to be taken from the Fitting and
Operating Instructions of the connected pumps and observed
under all circumstances.

Transport and storage
The switching device is to be protected against
ATTENTION!
damp and mechanical damage caused by
collision/impact. The switching device must not be
exposed to temperatures outside the range from -
10 °C to +50 °C.

Description of product and accessories

4.1 Description of switching device

The control system basically consists of a microcontroller-unit
(CPU) for the control, monitoring, recording and adjustment of all
operational processes. The pumps are switched via contactors. To
protect the drives against overload, electronic circuit breakers
(ESA) are built in for direct-start drives and protective motor swit-
ches (MSS) or thermal circuit breakers (TSA) for pumps with Y/ -
start-up. The triggering of the MSS and TSA are announced jointly
as protective motor circuit breakers (MSA).
The switching device is available in 2 models, with
motherboard with control and power part for pumps with P2 ≤ 4
kW,

The level can be monitored in the switching device by level control
with a active level sensor (4-20mA) or float switches (MS 1):

The actuating variable for switching the pumps on and off and the-
refore for controlling the water level in the shaft is generated by a
level sensor as 4-20mA signal. The level sensor must be hung in to
the medium and can be fixed with a cable straining clamp (Option).
The pressure, which also rises when the water level rises, is proces-
sed in the device into switching pulses for the pump control. In the
standard version, the level sensor is set to a maximum level of 2.5
mWC (corresponding to 100%) and can be modified in menu 2.25
to the value of the sensor that is actually used.
The total shaft height is divided into 4 warning or switching stages:
Dry run "T" is the minimum level, which may not be fallen short
x
of to protect the mechanical seal of the pump. The dry run pro-
tection is triggered at the lowest level (-) (alarm signal) and swit-
ches the pump off. Only at a higher level (+) are the dry run pro-
tection and alarm disengaged.
Constant load level "GL" (+): the constant load pump is switched
x
on and switched off again at the lower constant load level (-)
Peak load level "SL": if the constant load pump is unable to pump
x
out the water running through the shaft in sufficient quantities,
the 2nd pump switches on at the peak load level (+) and switches
off again when the peak load level (-) is reached (additional ope-
ration).
High water "H": if the water rises to the maximum high water
x
level (+), an alarm is given. If the level drops the alarm is only
disengaged when high water (-) is reached.
Spreading the on and off processes avoids flutter switching. The
Switching points of the level heights are to be set using menus
2.05 - 2.12.

Float switches can also be connected to the switching device as
level indicators.

ATTENTION!
(accessory)
The "Float" level operation can be achieved by up to 5 float swit-
ches. The on and off points re firmly defined by the arrangement of
the floats in the shaft:
Dry run "T" (1): when the lower float switch position is reached
x
(-) the pumps are switched off (alarm signal). The dry run protec-
tion and alarm are disengaged in the upper switch position (+).
Pumps Off "A" (-) (2): in the lower switch position both pumps
x
are switched off simultaneously.
Constant load "GL" On (+) (3): when the constant load level is
x
reached in the upper switch position the constant load pump is
switched on.
Peak load "SL" On (+) (4): when the peak load level is reached
x
in the upper switch position the 2nd pump is also switched on.
High water „H" (5): maximum high water level (+) is reached in
x
the upper switch position. An alarm is given. The alarm signal is
disengaged in the lower switch position (-).
If necessary fewer float switches can be used, e.g.
ATTENTION!
for 1-pump operation. For unoccupied level con-
nections the contacts must remain free!
Exception: the "dry run" contact is to be bridged!
Pump swop: The pumps are swapped each time the constant load
x
is switched off. The constant load function (sum of overall run-
ning time of one pump 24 hours) is controlled to ensure an even
load distribution on the pumps.
Peak load operation: the 2nd pump can be set to peak load ope-
x
ration or
reserve operation. In reserve operation the 2nd pump is available
should a malfunction occur. The pumps are also swapped in
reserve operation.
Manual operation: is only envisaged for test operation and only
x
for a short running time. The running time (adjustable between
6-30 sec.) follows an idle period (adjustable between 6-30 sec.),
during which the pump in question cannot be switched on. To re-
start, press the manual key. Level control does not take place
during manual operation. Dry run protection remains active.
