INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Instructions for using the Tuohy-Borst Valve (TBV) are covered in
sections I and III.
Instructions for using the Cross Cut Valve (CCV) are covered in
sections II and III.
I. Using the Tuohy-Borst Valve (TBV)
1. Ensure that the valve and the sheath are tightly connected.
2. Connect a flushing line to the 3-way stopcock of the guiding
sheath. Fill the sheath assembly completely with heparinized
saline, removing all air.
3. Wet the distal end of the sheath with heparinized saline, refer to
Table 1 for Hydrophilic coating length. To maintain lubricity, this
surface must be kept completely wet.
4. Prime the dilator using a syringe with heparinized saline.
5. Insert the dilator completely into the sheath.
6. Tighten the Tuohy-Borst valve around the dilator by turning
the cap clockwise. If desired, clip the dilator hub and the TBV
together using the dilator retaining clip provided (Figs. 2 & 3). Be
sure to note the correct orientation of the dilator retaining clip to
the dilator hub and TBV.
7. To "unlock" the dilator from the TBV and sheath, remove the clip
and loosen the TBV by turning the cap counter clockwise.

CAUTION
• The Tuohy-Borst Valve (TBV) must be tightly closed to minimize
the risk of hemorrhage or air embolism.
II. Using the Cross Cut Valve (CCV)
1. Ensure that the valve and the sheath are tightly connected.
2. Connect a flushing line to the 3-way stopcock of the guiding
sheath. Fill the sheath assembly completely with heparinized
saline, removing all air.
3. Wet the distal end of the sheath with heparinized saline, refer to
Table 1 for the Hydrophilic coating length. To maintain lubricity,
this surface must be kept completely wet.
4. Prime the dilator using a syringe with heparinized saline.
5. Insert the dilator completely into the sheath.
CAUTION
• Insert the dilator into the center of the sheath valve. Forced
insertion of the dilator which misses the center of the sheath
valve may cause damage and result in blood leakage.
6. The CCV connects the male hub of the dilator and locks in place
by means of grip. Snap the dilator hub into the top of the CCV
hub to lock them together (Fig. 4).
7. To "unlock" the dilator from the CCV and sheath, bend the dilator
hub downward (Fig. 5).
