Troubleshooting
Problem
The engine does not start.
The engine runs poorly.
The engine overheats.
The engine does not shut off.
Mowing performance is poor.
The mower vibrates.
The mower head does not retain line.
Possible Cause
1. The spark-plug wire is loose or
disconnected.
2. The spark plug is wet, pitted, fouled, or
the gap is incorrect.
3. The fuel tank is empty.
4. The air filter is dirty.
5. There is dirt in fuel filter.
6. The carburetor or fuel line is dirty.
7. The carburetor is out of adjustment.
8. The engine switch is in the O
posiiton.
9. Dirt, water, or stale fuel is in fuel
system.
10. The engine switch or wire is defective.
1. The spark plug is faulty.
2. The air filter is dirty.
3. The carburetor is out of adjustment.
4. Dirt, water, or stale fuel is in fuel
system.
5. The engine cooling system is clogged.

Corrective Action
1. Install the wire on the spark plug.
2. Install a new, correctly gapped spark
plug.
3. Fill the fuel tank.
4. Replace the air filter.
