Install the unit in such a position that the user can easily operate
the handle in order to steer the ship.
Cut a hole in the dashboard or instrument panel using the tem-
plate supplied. Maximum panel thickness possible is 35 mm.
Fix the control unit in place using the rings and nuts supplied.
Connections
Connect the operating unit to the electronic control unit using
a 6 x 0.34 mm
2
cable. Follow the colours shown in the wiring
diagram 7.3.

Moveable operating unit
Fit the socket for the plug on the end of the coiled cable near to
the steering position chosen.
Make sure that this is in such a position that no water can
remain in the socket.
Connect the socket to the electronic control unit using a 6
x 0.34 mm
2
cable. Follow the colours shown in the wiring
diagram 7.3.

Power supply, main cables

The Follow-Up steering system can be connected to both a 12
Volt or a 24 volt on board power supply.
See wiring diagram 7.2.
Fit a main switch and a fuse (20 A) in the '+' cable.
Fitting a main switch between the battery and the electronic
control unit allows the Follow-Up steering system to be switched
off completely when leaving the ship.
Steering drive unit
Check that the voltage given on the steering drive unit is the
same as that of the ship's network.
When choosing the cross-sectional area of the cables from the
battery to the electronic control unit and from there to the drive
unit allow for the following:
in order to limit the voltage loss in the cables where a revers-
ible engine is installed and where the maximum current can be
as high as 20 A the cross-sectional area must be at least 2.5
mm
2
.
By a 12 Volt installation:
Where the total cable length (+ and – cable from the battery
and both connecting cables to the motor) is more than 8 m 4
mm
2
cable should be used.
By a 24 Volt installation:
Where the total cable length (+ and – cable from the battery
and both connecting cables to the motor) is more than 16 m 4
mm
2
cable should be used.
