■ Selection of a sample:
The moisture heterogeneity of grain when it is harvested, and also
that which is due to transport conditions require that any moisture
measurement be conducted with precautions. The results obtained
from extracted sample should be as close as possible to that of a
container storing several tons of grain.
- Extraction should range from 5 to 6 litres for container storing 5 to
6 tons of grain.
- A divider may be used for extracting a 500 g or 1 000 g homoge-
neous subsample.
■ Cleaning of the sample:
The calibration of the apparatus is done using "CLEAN AND
WHOLE" grains. The sample should be free from all impurities like
broken grains or other varieties of grains, as well as pebbles, straw,
stems etc.
In order to obtain precise results, the measurement cycle should be
done on the same variety of grain or those using the same calibra-
tions.
IT IS NECESSARY TO CLEAN THE GRAIN either manually or
mechanically before running any measurement cycle using the
Aqua-TR.
■ Wet grains:
Damp or wet grains are in a state of precarious equilibrium, depend-
ing on the homogeneity of water in grain, on the biology and also on
the temperature of the grain.
One has to be particularly careful with grains which have been col-
lected during, or just after the rain. In this case, it is deeply recom-
mended to wait a few hours before running a measurement.
