3 Switching the motor off
Emergency stop procedure:
If it should be necessary to stop the machine immediately
then move the on/off switch to „Stop" or „0"
Normal procedure:
Release the throttle trigger and wait until the motor has
run down to idle speed. The set the on/off switch to „Stop"
or „0".
4 Operating instructions
Practice all working techniques with the motor switched
off before using the device.
Lengthening the cutting line
Warning! Do not use any type of metal wire or plastic
sheathed metal wire in the cutting line spool. This can
lead to serious injuries to the operator.
To lengthen the cutting line, let the motor run at full throt-
tle and tap the cutting line spool on the ground. The cut-
ting line will be automatically lengthened. The blade on
the protective cover will trim the cutting line to the permit-
ted length (fig. 9b).
Caution: Remove all grass and weed residue regularly
in order to avoid the shaft tube overheating. Lawn/grass/
weed residue can become entangled underneath the pro-
tective cover (fig. 9c) and this inhibits the cooling of the
shaft tube. Remove the residue carefully with a screw-
driver or similar.
Different cutting procedures
If the device is correctly assembled it cut weeds and tall
grass in places that are difficult to access, e.g. along a
fence, wall or foundation, or around trees. It can also be
used for „scything work", to remove vegetation at ground
level in order to better prepare a garden or to clear out a
defined area.
Note: Even when used carefully cutting up to founda-
tions, stone or concrete walls etc. will result in faster wear
of the cutting line than normal.
Trimming / mowing
Swing the trimmer from side to side like a scythe. Always
keep the trimming line spool parallel to the ground. Check
the area to be mowed and determined the desired cut-
ting height. Guide and hold the cutting line spool at the
desired height in order to achieve even cutting (fig. 9d).
Low trimming
Hold the trimmer at a slight angle right in front of you
so that the underside of the cutting line spool is above
the ground and the cutting line strikes the correct cutting
point. Always cut away from yourself. Do not pull the trim-
mer towards yourself.
Cutting up to fences / foundations
When cutting approach chain-link fences, lattice fences,
stone walls and foundations slowly in order to cut close
to them but without the cutting line striking the obstacle.
If the cutting line comes into contact with stones, stone
walls or foundations for example, it will be worn out or
become frayed. If the cutting line strikes the mesh of a
fence it will break.
Trimming around trees
When trimming around tree trunks approach the tree
slowly to avoid the cutting line touching the bark. Walk
around the tree cutting from left to right as you do so. Ap-
proach the grass or weeds with the tip of the cutting line
and tilt the cutting line spool slightly forwards.
Warning: Be very careful when carrying out mowing
work. Make sure that bystanders and animals remain at
least 30 m away from you when carrying out such work.
Clearing
When clearing you cut all of the vegetation off at ground
level. To do so incline the cutting line spool at a 30 degree
angle to the right. Set the hand grip to the desired posi-
tion. Note the increased level of injury risk to the operator,
bystanders and animals as well as the risk of material
damage to property through objects (e.g. stones) being
caught and ejected (Fig. 9e).
Warning: Do not use the device to remove objects from
pathways etc.! The device is a powerful tool and small
stones and other objects can be thrown 15 metres and
more and can result in injuries or damage to cars, houses
and windows.
Sawing
The device is not suitable for sawing.
Jamming
If the cutting blade should become jammed due to the
vegetation being too dense, switch the motor off immedi-
ately. Free the device of grass and scrub before starting
it up again.
Avoiding recoil
When working with the cutting blade there is a risk of
recoil if it strikes a solid obstacle (tree trunk, branch,
tree stump, stone or similar). If this happens the device
may kick-back in the opposite direction from the turning
direction of the tool. This can result in the operator loos-
ing control of the device. Do not use the cutting blade in
the vicinity of fences or metal posts, boundary stones or
foundations.
For cutting thick stems position them as shown in fig. 9f
in order to avoid recoil.
Cleaning, maintenance and ordering replace-
ment parts
Cleaning
• Keep the protective equipment, air slots and motor
housing as free of dust and dirt as possible. Wipe the
device with a clean cloth or blast it with low-pressure
compressed air.
• We recommend that you clean the device immediately
after each use.
• Clean the device regularly with a damp cloth and a little
soft soap. Do not use detergents or solvents - these can
attack the plastic parts of the device. Take care that no
water gets into the device.
Maintenance
Always switch the device off before maintenance work
and remove the connector from the spark plug.
