3. GENERAL INFORMATION

3.1 General assembly information

The information below contains some important advice for the assembly
of the recessed solar collector.
Keep this manual in a safe place and consult it during the solar collector
installation procedure. Installation should be performed by skilled qua-
lified staff only.
Generally we recommend you use the installation material provided for
the assembly operations.
Prior to assembly and commissioning, it is a good idea to find out what
the applicable regulations are in the place where the solar system is
being installed.
We recommend you use the purpose-provided belt to transport the solar
collector. Never lift the collector using the connections. Avoid the collec-
tor being knocked and protect the glass, the bottom and the connections
first and foremost.
Assembly should only take place on sufficiently sturdy roofs. The static
capacity of the roof and its sub-structure must under all circumstances
be verified on site prior to commencing assembly of the collectors.
During this operation, the suitability of the fixing connections envisaged
or equivalent must be carefully assessed. In regards to the verification
of the entire frame structure of the collector, the applicable regulations
in your country shall apply, according the relevant zone. In particular, in
zones subject to heavy snowfalls (note: 1 m3 of dry snow ~ 60 kg, 1 m3
of wet snow ~ 200 kg) or in zones exposed to strong winds, all these
characteristics must be taken into account as they could lead to higher
stress levels. The fields of the collectors must be installed in such a way
as to avoid any snow build-up, caused by snowbreaks or other factors,
reaching the collectors.
The distance from the ridges and edges of the roof must be at least 1
metre.
Caution: the assembly of a field of solar collectors may modify the
existing roof structure. In some cases (tile roofs, shingle, slate or
in the case of low sloping roofs) additional construction measures
may be necessary to prevent any water infiltration (such as water-
proof membranes).
According to the lightning protection regulations, it is forbidden to con-
nect the field of collectors to the building's lightning protection system.
Any other conductor in the vicinity of the field can be positioned at a
safety distance of at least 1 metre. When installing the solar collector
on roofs with a metal structure, we recommend you consult specialist
electricians.
To compensate for the potential of the building, the solar circuit's metal
pipes have to be connected, as well as all the housings of the collectors
and fixtures with the main compensation bar. This task must be perfor-
med by a qualified technician.
The collectors should be connected to one another and to the connection
pipes with 1" male threaded fittings with a flat seal. Make sure you
position the flat seals correctly. If hoses are not envisaged as connec-
tion elements, then arrange for devices to compensate for the thermal
expansion.
To tighten the fittings, always use two spanners to avoid damaging the
absorber.
The collector is suitable for installations with a minimum tilt angle of 20°
and a maximum of 65°. The collector must be assembled so that good
rear ventilation is guaranteed, to avoid the spreading of damp inside it.
In the event of a roof waterproofed with bitumen sheets or with bitumen
sheets underneath the traditional roof, arrange for plastic spacers at
26
least 2 cm in thickness in order to ensure the passage of air between the
collector and the roof (fig. A).

supporting surface and should therefore never be rested directly
onto it.
