General information

1
The folding BPW underrun guard, type UFK 100 III, has been developed for drawbar installations with a long recessed
dimension on tractive units and trailers.
The ECE type approval of the underrun guard E4 58R – 020262 has been issued for vehicle classes N3, N2, O3 and
O4 without restrictions on the gross vehicle weight (GVW).
The frame width can be varied between 740 mm and 1400 mm, depending on the vehicle type. The permitted build-
under dimension is max. 350 mm from the rear edge of the vehicle to the front edge of the folded-down underrun
guard.
The parallelogram version is delivered but is not cross-braced according to Directive 70/221 / EEC (e4*70/221*
2006/20*0360*02) and, when installed on the vehicle, has been inspected by a manufacturer approved in accordance
with Directive 70/221 / EEC (see point 2c). In this version, the restraints must also be provided and operating condi-
tions of the transverse cross-member used (such as the vehicle's ZGG, permissible frame width and the permissible
sub-dimension). The permissible under-dimension of the complete underrun protection results from the permissible
substructure dimension of the transverse beam minus 50 mm (due to the deformation of the brackets under the test
area).
When the vehicle is unladen, the lower edge of the folded-down underrun guard must not be more than 550 mm
above the carriageway at any point.
The width of the rear underrun guard must no exceed the width of the rear axle, measured between the outermost
points of both wheels, must not be less than 100 mm at any point. If there are several rear axles, the widest axle is
the determining factor.
Color coating
The KTL coating system fulfi lls all currently known requirements with regard to corrosion protection, paint adhesion,
lacquer compatibility, etc. Overcoating is guaranteed with all commercially available, air-drying 1K synthetic resin,
vehicle and chassis lacquers and with all commercially available 2K lacquer systems, aqueous and solvent-containing.
Exceptions are dispersion, building and nitro lacquers. If a 2-component lacquer is to be applied, the compatibility
of the solvents must be checked.
