Connecting the Water Cooling/
Dust Extraction
When wet- or dry-drilling core bits are not sufficiently
cooled during drilling, the diamond segments can
become damaged or the core bit can become jammed
in the bore hole. Therefore, provide for sufficient water
cooling during wet drilling, and for proper operating
dust extraction during dry drilling.
When boring out a given bore, the given bore must be
carefully plugged in order to enable sufficient cooling of
the core bit.
Connected hoses, shut-off valves or accesso-
ries must not obstruct or hinder the drilling
process.
Water Cooling of the Flushing Head
(GDB 1600 WE)
Shut the water cock 10. Connect water supply to the
water-outlet connector 5. The water supply is possible
either via a mobile water-pressure container (acces-
sory) or via stationary water connection.
When the machine is inserted in a drill stand, the water
coming out of the bore can be collected using the
water collection ring and an all-purpose vacuum
cleaner (both accessories).
When wet-drilling overhead, the water coming
out must be collected. For this, insert the machine
into a drill stand and mount a water collection ring.
For assembly of the water collection ring, read and fol-
low its operating instructions.
Dust Extraction via Suction Head
Insert the vacuum hose 18 of a vacuum cleaner (acces-
sory) into the vacuum connection 17 of the suction head.
Operation

Starting Operation

Observe correct mains voltage! The voltage of
the power source must agree with the voltage
specified on the nameplate of the machine.
Power tools marked with 230 V can also be
operated with 220 V.
Before beginning work, consult the structural
engineer, architect or construction supervisor
in charge. Only cut through reinforcements
with the permission of a structural engineer.
When core drilling through walls or floors,
ensure to check the respective rooms/enclo-
sures for obstructions. Barrier off the construc-
tion site and secure the drilled out core against
falling down with the use of casing or similar.

Operational Check of the Residual Current
Device (GDB 1600 WE)
Check the proper function of the residual current
device 4 each time before working:
Push the "RESET" button on the residual current
device. The service readiness of the residual current
device is signalled through a red control indicator.
Push the "TEST" button. The indicator above the
"RESET" button becomes black.
Switching On
GDB 1600 WE: Push the "RESET" button on the
residual current device 4.
GDB 1600 WE with flusing head 6: Open the water
cock 10. Check the flow of water at the water-flow indi-
cator 8.
To start the power tool, press the On/Off switch 3.
To lock the On/Off switch, keep it pressed and addi-
tionally push the lock-on button 2.
Switching Off
Release the On/Off switch 3. When the On/Off switch
3 is locked, press the On/Off switch first and then
release.
GDB 1600 WE with flusing head 6: Shut the water
cock 10. After finishing work, disconnect the water out-
let connector 5 from the water supply. Open the water
cock 10 and drain the remaining water.
Adjusting the Speed
The speed of the switched on power tool can be varia-
bly adjusted, depending on how far the On/Off switch
3 is pressed.
Two speed ranges can be preselected with the gear
selector 22.
The two gears are recommended for the following bore
diameters:
1st gear
Wet drilling
33–102 mm
Dry drilling
69–152 mm
Operating Instructions
Always use a centring cross (accessory) when starting
the drilling procedure without the use of a drill stand.
Start drilling in 1. gear at low speed until the core bit
rotates vibration-free in the material. Afterwards switch
to the 2. gear, if required.
While drilling, adapt the feed pressure to the material
being drilled. Drill with uniform pressure. Lightly pull the
core bit out of the bore from time to time so that the
drilling sludge or drilling dust can be removed from the
core bit segments.
Do not overload the machine. The control indicator 1
flashes in case of overload (see "Control Indicator").
