Assembly
Operation without Drill Stand
Always use the auxiliary handle supplied with
the machine. Loss of control can cause personal
injury.
Screw the auxiliary handle 16 into the thread 9 on the
drill head. If required, turn the drill head to one of the
four possible positions to achieve a low-fatigue and
safe working stance (see "Mounting the Drill Head").
Operation with Drill Stand
The safety and operating instructions for the
drill stand being used are to be strictly
observed!
For safety reasons, the machine should generally be
clamped in the S 500 A diamond drill stand.
To insert the machine into the drill stand, read and
observe the respective operating instructions.
Mounting/Replacing the Drill Head
Operation with drill stand: Before any work on
the machine itself, during work breaks as well
as when not using for extended periods,
secure the machine against unintentional
motion by engaging the feed lock. Read and
observe the operating instructions of the drill stand.
Drill Head Selection
The GDB 1600 WE can be operated with the flushing
head 6 and with the suction head 19. For operation with
wet-drilling core bits, mount the flushing head; for oper-
ation with core bits (dry drilling), mount the suction head.
For safety reasons, the GDB 1600 DE can only be
operated with the suction head 19 for dry drilling core
bits. This is ensured by means of a special encoding of
power tool and drill head.
Mounting the Drill Head
Loosen the clamping screw 15 on the flushing head 6
or on the suction head 19 respectively until the secur-
ing pin 14 is pulled completely back into the housing.
Mount the flushing head or the suction head respectively
to the stop on the drill head holder 20. The latching cogs
21 of the drill head holder must engage in the latching
grooves 7 on the drill head. Four 90° offset positions are
possible for this. Mount the drill head in the position at
which all contol elements can be reached well.
Firmly tighten the clamping screw 15 again.

Disassembling the Drill Head
Completely unscrew the clamping screw 15 on the
flushing head 6 or on the suction head 19 respectively.
Loosen the clamping by appyling light pressure onto
the clamping screw.
Pull off the flushing head or the suction head respec-
tively from the drill head holder 20.
Inserting/Replacing the Core Bit
Operation with drill stand: Before any work on
the machine itself, during work breaks as well
as when not using for extended periods,
secure the machine against unintentional
motion by engaging the feed lock. Read and
observe the operating instructions of the drill stand.
Core Bit Selection
Wet-drilling core bits may be used only with the flush-
ing head 6, dry-drilling core bits with the suction head
19.
Bosch core bits are colour-coded:
Wet-drilling core bits
Dry-drilling core bits
Inserting a Core Bit
Examine the core bit before inserting it. Use
only core bits that are in perfect condition.
Damaged or deformed core bits can lead to danger-
ous situations.
Clean the core bit before inserting it. Apply a light coat
of grease to the core bit thread or spray on a corrosion
protection agent.
Either screw an R 1/2" core bit into the drill spindle 13
or a 1 1/4"-UNC core bit onto the drill spindle 13.
Check the proper seating of the core bit. Incor-
rectly or unsecurely fastened core bits can become
loose during operation and may pose a danger.
Inserting a sliding ring 11 (accessory) between the drill
spindle and the 1 1/4"-UNC core bit provide for easier
loosening of the core bit after use.
Removing a Core Bit
Wear protective gloves when replacing the
core bit. The core bit can become hot after pro-
longed operation of the power tool.
Loosen the core bit 12 with an open-end spanner
(1 1/4"-UNC core bit: Size 41 mm; R 1/2" core bits:
Size 22 mm). Counterlock with a second open-end
spanner (size 36 mm) against the flats of the drill spin-
dle 13.
