Autoclave Sterilization
Cleaned and disinfected temperature probes are capable of being sterilized
prior to use. To sterilize a probe, perform either the Philips Validated
Autoclave Procedure, or the Alternative Autoclave Procedure, as outlined
below.
Autoclave Warnings
• Never autoclave optional connector cables.
• Never autoclave any gray color Philips temperature probe. Only tan
color Philips probes are designed to withstand steam autoclaving.
• Never exceed maximum steam temperature recommendations of 138°C
during any autoclave cycle.
Philips Validated Autoclave Procedure
1. Coil the cleaned and disinfected temperature probe assembly into
a four-inch diameter coil.
2. Enclose the coiled probe in a breathable sterilization wrap.
3. Using a pre-vacuum single pulse process, achieve 27-inches Hg
vacuum.
4. Expose the wrapped probe to a saturated steam temperature of
132°C (minimum) - 138°C (maximum) for four minutes.
Alternative Autoclave Procedure
Alternatively, you may prepare and expose the temperature probe to the
autoclave sterilization cycle recommended by your medical facility and
autoclave equipment manufacturer. To avoid damage to the probe, never
exceed 138°C maximum saturated steam temperature.
