13. Using the knurled screw (Fig. 14, Pos. 2), move the
mirror vertically until the laser beam is reflected onto
the projection surface of the wheel laser as close as
possible (+/- 1 mm) to the outlet aperture.

14. Now release the fastening screw on the side of the
spirit level with the elongated hole (Fig. 14, Pos. 3),
and position the spirit level in such a way that the
air bubble is exactly in the middle. The spirit level
is now aligned in relation to the surface below the
vehicle, and must no longer be adjusted.
15. Switch the wheel laser off again.
16. Unscrew the setscrew of the KDS quick-change clamp
and remove the wheel laser from the clamp holder.
After this, remove the KDS quick-change clamp from
the rear wheel.
17. Take the setting device off the rail. To do so, pull the
locking lever on the right-hand carry handle. This re-
leases the clamp, so that the setting device can easily
be removed from the rail.

Testing / setting the ACC
sensor
i
The adjustment of the ACC sensor must be performed
meticulously, since a deviation in the sensor setting
of just 0.2° in relation to the dynamic driving axis will
impair the entire system!

7.1
Establishing the driving axis
In order to check and set the ACC sensor, the mirror must
be aligned horizontally and vertically in relation to the
driving axis of the test vehicle.
In most cases, however, the test vehicle is not positioned
precisely at right angles to the setting device, and the
test stand itself may feature surface irregularities or an
inclination.
The setting device is used to ascertain these deviations.
This procedure must be carried out for both the left and
right-hand sides of the vehicle.
On the basis of the values determined on both sides of
the vehicle, the BMW diagnosis system then calculates the
appropriate mirror settings to ensure correct alignment
in relation to the driving axis.

Preparatory measures

The following measures must be carried out before you
commence testing and setting the ACC sensor:
1. Check the tyre pressure and correct if necessary.
2. Check that the fuel tank is 50 % full.
3. Drive the test vehicle onto the test stand. The vehicle
should, as far as possible, be at right angles to the rail.
i
If the angle of the vehicle's driving axis in relation to
the rail deviates by > 5°, the basic alignment cannot
be established (using the setting device).
4. Next, check that the ACC sensor is at the required
distance (120 cm +/- 5 cm) from the mirror.
7.3
Aligning the setting device, left side
1. Place the setting device on the rail and lock in place.
To do so, first pull the locking lever on the right-hand
carry handle to release the clamp. Now place the set-
ting device precisely on the rail with the clamp open.
Release the lever once more to fix the setting device
in place on the rail.
2. Ensure that the setting device is mounted correctly on
the rail. In addition, ensure that the mirror is set to the
centre position of the tilting device (Fig. 15, Pos. 1).
