MOTOR PROTECTOR CONNECTIONS

20.1.
ELECTRIC PUMPS WITH THERMAL PROBES
ATTENTION
All electric pumps are equipped with thermal probes as standard supply (terminals marked with symbols T1 and T2). It
is obligatory to connect them to a suitable power source cut-out device.
Thermal probes are normally closed bimetallic switches installed in the motor windings. Once a temperature of 132°C (270°F) has been exceeded,
the switches open and interrupt the power supply to the remote control coil, thus stopping the electric pump.
The coil will be energized again when the probes have cooled (114°C/237°F). The probes can be connected at a max. voltage value of 250V and
have a max. capacity of 1,6A cosϕ = 0.6.
A 24V - 1.5A power supply is recommended.
20.2. ELECTRIC PUMPS WITH CONDUCTIVITY PROBES
ATTENTION
The conductivity probe is either installed in the oil chamber (for -N1/N3 X3 versions) or in the electric motor (for -...X1... versions)
and detects water infiltrations . If the electric panel is equipped with a conductivity detector, this will activate when the electric resistance is less than
30 kΩ owing to the presence of water. In order to detect conductivity, the terminal marked "S" and a shunt of the Yellow / Green earth terminal must be
connected to the device.
The conductivity detector is generally used to close an alarm circuit if water is detected in the oil chamber or motor. The alarm circuit can either have
lights and/or be acoustic. For explosion-proof pumps, the specifications of the device must be compatible with the classification of the area liable to
the risk of explosion.
If is forbidden to use the conductivity probe in the oil chamber of explosion-proof electric pumps X1 installed in areas where
use of electric pumps with this type of approval is explicitly required. For X3 pumps, the use of the conductivity probe in the oil
chamber is approved.
* See paragraph 8.7

21. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE INSPECTIONS

To ensure regular pump operation and long life, the purchaser must ensure that regular inspections and periodic maintenance operations are carried
out, with replacement of any worn parts. It is advisable to carry out the below listed preventive inspections at least once a month, or after every 200-
300 hours service:
- check that the power supply voltage is within the established values;
- check that the noise and vibration levels are unchanged, in relation to optimum first start-up conditions;
- using an amperometric clamp, check that the power draws on the three phases are balanced and that they do not exceed the data plate values;
- check the motor insulation: detach the power cable from the panel and connect the joined cable terminals and the ground cable to the terminals of
a 500 V.d.c. ohmmeter. The insulation resistance (motor-cable) must not be less than 5MΩ. Failing this, pull out the unit and overhaul (a cable will
need replacing or the motor must be repaired). Further inspections for electric pumps equipped with the following devices:
- check the oil conductivity which must be >30KΩ, if the electric panel is without the relative warning light;
- check the specific warning light to see whether the thermal probes of the motor have activated.
Ask Caprari SpA for their "Periodic inspections and preventive maintenance" publication, document N° 0023450 for more detailed and scheduled
maintenance work.
22. CHECK AND REPLACEMENT OF OIL IN THE OIL CHAMBER AND BEARING GREASE.
Under normal operating conditions, oil in the oil chamber must be changed every 7,500 hours; in more demanding conditions, every 2,500 hours.
Use the oil types reported below or similar.
For electric pumps K...N1/X1, during oil draining and topping-up operations, use suitable inlets with ½" Gas caps.
The inlet identified by "OUT" is used to drain oil; in order to obtain full drainage, the machine must be placed horizontally; as an alternative, use a
suitable oil suction device.
The inlet identified by "IN" is used to top-up oil.
With the electric pump in horizontal position, the correct oil level is achieved when its level reaches the base of the inlet hole, or alternatively follow
the quantities recommended below:
For electric pumps K...N3 X3, there is only one ¼" Gas cap identified by "OIL IN/OUT" and the correct oil level is obtained only when the same
level reaches the base of the topping-up hole.

K_ D200N _+_ _ _ _ 1

Correct topping-up requires the strict compliance with the recommended oil quantity; the oil chamber is designed in order to ensure a suitable air
buffer.
If the drained oil appears as an emulsion, replace it with some new oil and check the integrity of the gaskets on the pump side.
If the oil in the tray also reveals traces of water, then replace the mechanical gasket on the pump side,; for K...N3 models also drain the cap
opposite to the one identified with "OIL IN/OUT".
The mechanical gasket on the motor side must be replaced only if damaged or in case of fluid found in the motor housing.
At the end or the drainage/topping up operations, make sure the caps are well tightened and fitted with suitable and new copper gaskets; if oil was
replaced, do not spill the spent oil but deliver it to authorised disposal centres. (For Italy, refer to Consorzi Obbligatori COBAT).
The lower bearing is lubricated with ESSO - UNIREX - N3 or equivalent type lubricant, filled at 70%.
In case of malfunctioning of the lower mechanical gasket, the oil leaks into the pumped fluid. Request the SAFETY SHEET for the oil type
in use to Caprari S.p.a. Caprari may be requested to top-up oil with F.D.A. certification.
