Basic alignment of the setting device with
relation to the test stand
i This section describes how the setting device is adjusted to
suit the characteristics of the test stand. The setting device
must be aligned in accordance with the inclination of the test
stand.
5.4.1 Preparatory measures
The following measures must be performed before you commence
with the basic alignment of the setting device:
G
Check rim for damage. Check quick-change clamp on
proper tight fitting
G
Check the tyre pressure and correct if necessary.
G
Drive the test vehicle onto the test stand in such a way that
the left side of the vehicle is over the centre of the test stand.
The vehicle must, as far as possible, be at right angles to the
rail.
i If the angle of the vehicle's driving axis in relation to the
rail deviates by > 5°, the basic alignment cannot be
established (using the setting device).
G
Next, check that the ACC sensor is at the required distance
(120 cm +/- 5 cm) from the mirror.
5.4.2 Alignment
For basic alignment, the mirror must be vertically aligned with the
axis of the test stand.
– Position the setting device in the middle of the rail.
– Fix the setting device in place on the rail. To do so, first pull the
locking lever on the right-hand carry handle to release the
clamp. Now place the setting device precisely on the rail with
the clamp open. Release the lever once more to fix the setting
device in place on the rail.
22
– Ensure that the setting device is mounted correctly on the rail.
In addition, ensure that the mirror is set to the centre position
of the tilting device (diagram, Item 1).

2
– Set the mirror to "1" with the aid of the vertical tilting mechanism
(diagram, Item 4).
– Fasten the Universal quick-change clamp to the rear left-hand
wheel. Insert the axle of the wheel laser into the socket of the
Universal quick-change clamp. Align the wheel laser so that it
is as horizontal as possible, and secure it to the Universal quick-
change clamp by means of the setscrew.
– Now press the Universal quick-change clamp with wheel laser
downwards to optimize the holding play.
– Switch on the laser.
Never look directly at the source of the
beam!
– Unscrew the setscrew (diagram, Item 5) and turn the mirror
until the laser beam is reflected on the vertical marking of the
wheel laser. Secure the mirror in place with the setscrew. The
mirror is now aligned horizontally.
