Safety / Installation
4C. Do not modify cord and plug. This pump is supplied
with a grounding-type plug. Plug into a grounded out-
let only. DO NOT cut off ground pin or use an adapter
fitting. If the system is not properly grounded or you
are not sure, call a licensed electrician for assistance.
Installation and checking of all electrical circuits and
hardware should be performed only by a qualified
licensed electrician.
4D. Make certain that the pump's power cord will reach
the ground fault interrupter protected receptacle or
control box. Do not use an extension cord with this
system.
4E. Connect this pump to a 15 amp circuit breaker on a
dedicated circuit.
4F. This pump is not approved for and should not be used
in swimming pools or fountains, or for pumping
potable (drinking) water.
5. Do not run pump dry. Dry running can overheat
pump, (causing burns to anyone handling it) and will
void warranty.
6. Pump normally runs hot. To avoid burns when servic-
ing pump, allow it to cool for 20 minutes after shut-
down before handling it.
7. In normal service, motor should not need oiling. Motor
has been filled at the factory with a special oil.
PIPING – SEWAGE APPLICATIONS
(2" OR LESS SOLIDS)
In any case, piping must not be smaller than pump dis-
charge.
When installed in a sewage system, pipe must be capable
of handling semi-solids of at least 2" (5.1 cm) diameter.
The rate of flow in the discharge pipe must keep any solids
present in suspension in the fluid. To meet minimum flow
requirements (2 feet (.6 m) per second in discharge line),
size pipe as follows:

INSTALLATION
See Table I, Fuse Data, and Table II, Performance, for elec-
trical specifications and performance data.
For a new Ready Jon installation, please refer to the Ready
Jon owner's manual, publication No. 23833A488, for com-
plete installation instructions.
To replace the pump in an existing Ready Jon unit, follow
the instructions below.
Turn off the water to the toilet. If necessary for access, dis-
connect the water line to the toilet, unbolt the toilet and
remove it from the Ready Jon.
1. Set out a large sheet of contractor's plastic (at least 4' x
6') on the floor next to the Ready Jon and tape it down
with duct tape. Use it to place parts on as they come
out of the tank.
2. Fill a 10 gallon plastic bucket (at least 12" in diameter
by 15" deep) 2/3 full of chlorine bleach to use as a dis-
infectant. Set it handy on the plastic sheet, close to
your work area but where you won't knock it over.
3. Put on heavy-duty rubber gloves before proceeding.
4. Disassemble the union in the discharge pipe.
5. Pry the cord grommet out of the lid and remove the
cords from the grommet. Rinse the grommet in the
bucket of bleach and set it aside on the plastic sheet.
6. Pry the pipe grommet up and out of the lid. Slide it up
the discharge pipe until it is clear of the lid.
7. Unscrew and remove the discharge pipe from the
pump with a strap wrench. With care, the pipe and its
adapter fitting will pass through the 3" hole in the lid.
Rinse the pipe in the bucket of bleach and set it aside
on the plastic sheet.
