Electrically driven
distributor impeller
A variable speed electric motor can
be supplied as extra equipment for
KIA 20 and KIA 60 to drive the dis-
tributor impeller. The motor ensures
that the distributor impeller always
rotates at a suitable speed - even
when material that tends to brake
the impeller is being cleaned.
Installation
The electric motor must be mount-
ed as shown in fig. 2. Note that the
bearing bush (H) must be turned
round if a motor drive is fitted to the
distributor impeller.
The electrical connection must be
made in accordance with separate
instructions enclosed with the mo-

tor and motor controls. The elec-
trical cable must be led through
the entry (I) and then through the
pipe (J) and down to the motor.
Remember to mount the cable so
that it does not disturb the mate-
rial flow through the aspirator. If an
electric motor is installed to drive
the distributor impeller, it is impor-
tant that the material is always able
to discharge from the aspirator at
the same rate as it is fed into it. If
the aspirator becomes blocked by
cleaned material there is a high risk
of the motor being overloaded and
damaged. Therefore, if the aspi-
rator is to discharge into a rotary
valve, the recommendation is that
a feed hopper be installed between
aspirator and rotary valve rather
than mounting the valve direct on
the aspirator bottom hopper.
Setting of electrically driven dis-
tributor impeller
Start the aspirator and set the mo-
tor control so that the distributor
impeller runs at low speed. Open
the material feed so that it flows
through the aspirator at normal
speed. Now set the motor control
so that the distributor impeller runs
evenly and at the same time the
material is distributed evenly in the
aspirator (can be checked through
the inspection opening). Do not run
the motor at too high a speed as
this will fling the material out to-
wards the sides of the aspirator and
result in poor cleaning.
