Before Initial Use

• Before using the device, remove all packaging materials and any labels that may be
on the device and are used for protection during transportation or for advertising.
Never remove the rating plate and any possible warnings!
• Charge up the battery (see the "Charging Up the Battery" chapter).
• Insert batteries into the handle (see the "Inserting / Changing Batteries in the Handle"
chapter).

Charging Up the Battery

PLEASE NOTE!
■ Risk of short-circuits! Do not insert any conducting objects (e. g. screwdrivers or
similar items) into the charging socket.
■ Only connect the mains adapter to a socket with safety contacts that is properly in-
stalled and matches the technical data of the device. The plug socket must also be
readily accessible after connection so that the connection to the mains can quickly
be isolated.
■ Pull the mains adapter out of the plug socket if it is not going to be used for a lengthy
period of time.
■ Only charge the battery when it is completely empty.
■ It is essential that you charge up the battery fully before you fi rst use the device
in order to achieve the maximum charging capacity. The fi rst charge will last
for 2 – 4 hours.
1. Ensure that the device is switched off (move the On / Off switch (5) to position O).
2. Connect the mains adapter to the charging socket (14).
3. Connect the mains adapter to a properly installed, easily accessible plug socket.
The charge control lamp (4) lights up red.
4. Allow the battery of the device to charge up for approx. 2 – 4 hours on the fi rst charge
and then for approx. 2 hours.
5. Disconnect the mains adapter from the mains power and then from the device.

Inserting / Changing Batteries in the Handle

Two 1.5 V batteries of the AAA type must be inserted in the battery compartment (15) in
the handle (1) so that it can communicate with the main unit (8) via infrared. To do this,
proceed as follows:
1. Remove the screw on the battery compartment using a screwdriver.
2. Remove the battery compartment cover.
3. Remove the used batteries and insert two new batteries (1.5 V; AAA type). Pay attention
to the polarity (+ / –).
Before inserting the batteries, check whether the contacts in the handle and on the
battery are clean, and clean them if necessary.
