a continuous circle around the horn bud, at an angle of 45 °, to complete the cauterization.
This will ensure that blood vessels are totally destroyed.
5. Disinfect
As soon as the operation is complete, apply a disinfectant spray.
This spray will have two effects:
- cooling of the cauterized area,
- prevention of subsequent infection.
Make sure that the spray penetrates all the way inside the wound.
Our recommendations:
Perform dehorning before the 29
Use a fully effective restraint system, such as a restraint cage.
Shaving around the horn bud will enable you to properly view and inspect your work.
Cat. No. 124 and 125: Do not stop the operation until you hear the tone at the end.
Cat. No. 126 and 127: Do not stop the operation until the steady tone ends.
Use a spray to protect and disinfect the wound.
Make sure that no flies lay eggs in the wound. Use fly repellent if necessary.
Check that there is no bleeding and that your animal is feeding properly in the hours following the operation.
For effective pain management, we recommend the use of local anaesthetic and an anti-inflammatory.
