The engine will keep on running even if the blade has stopped. It will
also be possible to engage traction of the mower without having to
engage the blade.

Energizing the Touch-N-mow
For safety, the starting system has been shipped from the factory de-
energized. Whenever the starting system has been de-energized, the
Touch-N-Mow must be energized before it is ready for use.
To energize the starting system, start the engine using the rewind
(manual) starter:
1. Place your mower on the lawn and, if possible, cut on a level surface.
2. Check the height of the grass and, then, set the cutting height.
3. Adjust with the centralized cutting height lever, you must do this
with the motor switched OFF.
a) You can choose from 6 available positions.
b) Grip the height adjustment handle.
c) Press the release button and lift or lower the body to select the cut-
ting height.
d) This simple operation adjusts the cutting height.
4. Check that the high tension wire is on the spark plug.
5. Press the primer pump three times to enrichen the carburation.
6. Insert the safety key. Turn clockwise to the RUN position.
7. Push the red lever below the System 2 lever and then squeeze the
System 2 lever towards the handle, slowly pull starter handle until
cord is stretched tight and then pull hard to start the engine.
8. Twist the traction handle (Twist Traction) and the mower will start
moving forward and cut the grass.
9. To stop the traction or to pull the mower backwards, let go of the
traction handle (Twist Traction).
10. To stop the engine let go of the System 2 lever.
When the System 2 lever is released, the engine stops and its inertia
charges the Touch-N-Mow spring.
A self-energizing pawl and ratchet mechanism holds the spring in the
energized position.
Note: As the engine stops, you will hear the sound of the starting
system re-energizing. This high speed "ratchet" sound is normal. A
patented design acts as the engine brake and re-energizes the
Touch-N-Mow starting system when the System 2 lever is released.
Lock the Touch-N-Mow starting system by turning the safety key 1/4
turn counterclockwise. Always remove the safety key and store it in a
safe place. The engine will not start with the safety key removed or
with the key in the lock position.
Note: If the engine has run out of fuel, or if the mower stops due to
thick grass or for other mechanical reasons, the Touch-N-Mow
starter will NOT re-energize.
Starting the engine using the Touch-N-Mow
To start the engine using the Touch-N-Mow:
1. Check the engine fuel and oil levels.
2. Connect the spark plug wire.
3. Press the engine prime 3 times.
4. Insert the safety key. Turn clockwise to the RUN position.
5. Standing at the upper handle, push and hold the button you'll find
below the System 2 lever.
6. Pull and hold the System 2 lever against the upper handle to start
the engine.
Note: If the engine doesn't start, the Touch-N-Mow has been de-
energized. Start the engine by following the steps in "Energizing the
Touch-N-mow".
Twist Traction system
This system gives the possibility to increase and decrease the traction speed
of the mower simply by twisting the handle on the right of the handlebar.
position.
The machine stops whenever you let go of the handle.
The traction speed range varies from 0 to 5 Km and has infinite and contin-
ious speed settings, which enable you to choose the best suitable speed for
your working conditions, with consequent advantage to the quality of cut per-
formance.
The Mulching System
In addition to working with the traditional bagging system, you can
use your lawn mower with the mulching system.
With this system, the blade chops up the cut grass finely and spreads
it on the lawn uniformly with no need to collect it.
Attention: Always stop the engine before performing the following
operation. For an easier installation/removal of the plug, it is rec-
ommended to clean the underside of the mower deck from any
grass clippings before performing this operation (please refer to the
corresponding section of this manual).
Installation
1. Remove the grassbag from the mower.
2. Firmly grab the plug rear handle with one hand as indicated.
3. With the other hand lift the rear chute door of the mower.
4. Insert the front edge of the plug into the mower discharge tunnel.
5. When the plug is nearly completely inserted, press the hook-
ing lever towards the ground and push the plug into the mower
until the reference tabs contact the deck.
NOTE: Familiarise yourself with the installation and the removal of
the Mulching plug to make sure this is always correctly used. An
improper installation can in fact put the plug into contact with the
cutting blade.
Removal
1. Lift the rear chute door with one hand.
2. Firmly grab the plug rear handle with the other hand.
3. In the meantime, press the hooking lever towards the ground.
4. Gently pull the plug out of the discharge tunnel.
5. When the first centimeter of the plug is protruding from the deck,
keep on pulling while lifting it upwards until it is completely removed.
Keep people and animals away from the cutting area (fig. 1).
Before operation, clear the cutting area of all foreign objects (fig. 1).
Operate only with either bag or protections in position (fig. 1).
Keep hands and feet away from the chute door and the blades under
the deck (fig. 2).
The grass clippings may be collected in the grassbag or discharged
on the lawn.
The grassbag material is capable of stopping most forms of debris
(stones, gravel, etc.) which could be thrown out by the blade. lt is
essential that the grassbag is checked periodically for damage or
wear, in which case it should be replaced Immediately with an origi-
nal IBEA grassbag.
While operating with your lawnmower, it may happen that the cutting
blade collides with a solid object with the consequent breakage of blade
bushing pins (fig. 3). The mower will then start to vibrate abnormally.
In order to avoid severe damages to your lawnmower, immediately
stop the engine when the above mentioned situation takes place.
Wait until the moving parts have completely stopped, disconnect the
high tension wire from the spark plug and replace the blade bushing.
