Setpoint teach-in
The BML supports teaching of setpoints using the teach-in
function according to the Smart Sensor Profile. Two
parameters are used for this teach-in procedure: (TI Select
and TI Result, see Tab. 7-9 and Tab. 7-10) as well as the
system commands (Teach Apply (0x40) to Teach Cancel
(0x4F)).
Teach-in can be done by directly setting the setpoints (SP1
and SP2) (Single Value Teach). Alternatively SP1 and SP2
can also be taught by setting teachpoints (TP1 and TP2)
(Two Value Teach). Setpoint SPx is determined from the
average of TP1 and TP2. The setpoints are stored in
non-volatile memory. The two teachpoints per setpoint are
not stored, but rather used only for calculation.
Switching signals can only be taught as long as
the position value is valid. If the teach procedure
takes place when there is a defective position
signal (No Measurement Signal or Out of
Range), this is acknowledged with an error.
Teach Select
The Teach Select parameter selects the current switching
signal to be configured.

Teach Result
The current status of the teachpoints and of the teach-in
procedure can be read out using the Teach Result (Index
0x003B) parameter. The Teach Result value is 1 byte long
and can be divided into 4 bits for the status of the
teachpoints and 4 bits for the status of the teach
procedure.

1st example:
Teach Single Point (SP1)
First the command SP1 Single Value Teach is used to
teach Setpoint SP1 at the current position. The setpoint is
not stored in non-volatile memory until the Teach Apply
command is carried out. In abbreviated form when
teaching SP1 you can also simply carry out the Teach
Apply command.
1. Use Select Teach Channel (Index 0x003A) to select
which switching channel to teach.
2. Checking the status.
⇒ Status = IDLE
3. Move the sensor head to the position of SP1.
4. Carry out system command SP1 Single Value Teach
(Code 0x41).
⇒ SP1 is taught.
5. Checking the status.
⇒ Status = WAIT FOR COMMAND
⇒ Teach Points = SP1 TP1/TP2
6. Carry out system command Teach Apply (Code 0x40).
⇒ The setpoints were stored in non-volatile memory.
