Safety and application notes for controllers
1. Persons responsible for safety
Operator
The operator is any natural or judicial person, who uses the Drive
PLC or in whose name the Drive PLC is used.
The operator, or the person designated by the operator as responsi-
ble for safety, must ensure that
– all relevant regulations, instructions and laws are observed,
– only qualified personnel work with and on the control system,
– the operating instructions are available to the personnel for all
activities that require them,
– unqualified personnel are forbidden to work with and on the drive
system.
Qualified personnel
Qualified personnel are persons who, as a result of their education,
training and experience, and knowledge of the relevant standards
and directives, accident prevention regulations and operating condi-
tions, have been permitted by the person responsible for system
safety to carry out the required activities and who are able to reco-
gnize and avoid dangers that may thereby arise. (Definition for quali-
fied personnel from VDE 105 or IEC 364)
2. Application as directed
When installing in machines, commissioning of the drive controllers
(i.e. the starting of operation as directed) is prohibited until it is pro-
ven that the machine corresponds to the regulations of the EC Direc-
tive 89/392/EEC (Machinery Directive), EN60204 60204 must be
observed.
Commissioning (i.e. starting of operation as directed) is only allowed
when there is compliance with the EMC Directive (89/336/EEC).
The technical data and information on the connection conditions
must be obtained from the documentation, and must be observed in
all cases. Climatic conditions must be observed in accordance with
EN50178.

Safety information

3. Installation
The units must be installed according to the regulations given in the
corresponding documentation.
The Drive PLC must be protected from impermissible loads.
Avoid touching electronic components and contacts.
The Drive PLC contains electrostatically sensitive components, which
can easily be damaged by inappropriate handling. Electrical compo-
nents may not be damaged or destroyed mechanically (health risks
are possible!).
4. Electrical connection
Die Drive PLC must only be operated from + 18 ... 30 V DC. Higher
voltages, or AC, will destroy the equipment.
5.Operation
Because of the variety of possible applications for the Drive PLC,
special rules and regulations must be observed by the project plan-
ner, who is also responsible for their implementation. Some basic
rules:
– EMERGENCY STOP devices must remain operational in all
operating circumstances of the plant or system.
– No undefined or unpredictable states may arise when the system
is switched on.
– The valid safety and accident prevention regulations for the
specific applications must be observed.
6. Maintenance and service
The manufacturer's documentation must be observed.
These safety notes must be kept!
