the due precautions it could become a dangerous tool.
For pleasant and safe work, always strictly comply with the
safety rules that follow and throughout this manual.
Chain saw for tree service
Specialized chain-saw of limited weight designed for use by a trained
and competent operator for pruning and dismantling standing tree
crowns.
Trained operator person who has competence and knowledge in:
-
the use and particular hazards associated with using a chain-
saw (for tree service work) manufactured in accordance with the
requirements of ISO 11681-2 and,
-
the precautions to be taken to limit these hazards including the
wearing of the recommended personal protective equipment
(PPE).
1 - The chain saw must only be used by adults in good physical
condition with knowledge of the operating instructions.
2 - Do not use the chain saw when you are physically tired or if you
have taken alcohol, drugs, or medication (Fig. 1).
3 - Never wear scarves, bracelets or anything else which could
be taken up by the machine or chain. Wear close-fitting safety
clothing (look pag. 12-13).
4 - Wear protective non-slip safety shoes, gloves, glasses, ear
protection and safety helmet (look pag. 12-13).
5 - Never allow bystanders to remain within your working area when
starting or cutting with the saw (Fig. 2).
6 - Do not start cutting until you have a clear work area. Do not cut
near electric cables.
7 - Always cut from a firm-footed and safe position (Fig. 3).
8 - Only use the chain saw in well-ventilated places, do not operate
the chain saw in explosive or flammable atmospheres or in
closed environments.

10 - Never touch the chain or attempt to service the saw while the
engine is running.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

11 - Fill the tank away from sources of heat and with the engine
stopped (Fig. 5). Never smoke while filling (Fig. 5). Never take
the cap off the tank when the engine is running. If fuel spills over
while filling, move the chain saw at least 3 metres (10 feet) away
before starting (Fig. 6).
12 - Always keep the handles dry and clean.
13 - Before starting make sure the chain is not obstructed.
14 - When the engine is idling the chain must not turn.
15 - When the chain saw is running, when held with both hands, grip
the front handle firmly with your left hand and the back handle
with your right hand (Fig. 7). Check that all parts of the body are
kept away from the chain and muffler.
16 - When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for springback
so you will not be struck when the tension in the wood fibre is
released.
17 - Take great care when cutting small branches or shrubs which
can block the chain, be thrown back towards you or cause you to
lose your balance.
18 - Never cut with the chain saw above shoulder height (Fig. 8).
19 - When using a chain saw, a fire extinguisher must be available in
the immediate vicinity (Fig. 4B).
20 - Check the chain saw each day to ensure that each device,
whether for safety or otherwise, is functional.
21 - Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the maintenance
operations.
22 - Never use a damaged, modified, or improperly repaired or
assembled chain saw. Do not remove, damage or deactivate any
of the safety devices. Only use bars of the length indicated in the
table.
23 - Never carry out operations or repairs on your own that are
other than routine maintenance. Call specialised and authorised
workshops only.
24 - Never use fuel for cleaning operations.
25 - Keep the chain saw in a dry place, off the ground with the chain
guard on and the tanks empty.
26 - Never start up the chain saw without the chain cover fitted.
27 - If your chain saw is no longer usable, dispose of it properly
without damaging the environment by handing it in to your local
Dealer who will arrange for its correct disposal.
28 - Only loan your saw to expert users who are completely familiar

with saw operation and correct use. Give other users the manual
with operating instructions, which they should read before using
the saw.
29 - All saw service, other than the operations shown in the present
manual, should be performed by competent personnel.
30 - Keep this manual on hand and consult it before each use of the
tool.
31 - The specially shaped handgrip on the machine calls for particular
care when dealing with kickback.
32 - Extreme care should be taken at the end of a cutting operation
in relation to the machine suddenly dropping. This eventuality is
difficult to control with this type of handgrip.
33 - Attention should be paid to chain sliding. Instead of penetrating
the tree trunk, the chain may slide forward and the operator will
not be able to fully control this action.
34 - Tree maintenance operators must be trained in the correct
operative techniques concerning safety at work, i.e.: headgear,
safety harnesses, cables and spring-clips, as well as all of the
other safety devices that are normally used and must be trained
professionally in tree climbing.
35 - The ISO 11681-2 regulation permits that, in hands of a trained
operator, it can be used an one hand, carefully using a safe way
of work (only for tree surgery). For all other operations it is
compulsory to use it with two hands in the same way as a
conventional chain saw.
WARNING! - WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TO USE THIS
CHAIN SHOW WITH ONE HAND ONLY.
Using the chain saw with only one hand is extremely
dangerous, as this will significantly increase the possible
occurrence of the dangers listed (31÷34) above.
36 - Pay attention to wires while working; always keep distance from
them.
37 - Release machine from hook point while refuelling.
