Pumps with shrouds

a) Motor cooling/sand protection shroud
Serves to increase the flow velocity on the motor surface to
enhance the heat dissipation in the following cases
- too high liquid temperature
- too low flow velocity on the motor surface
- deposits on the motor surface due to the liquid composition
- water inflow in the well above the motor.
Protects the pump against increased sand catchment.
b) Suction shroud
It is used when the water is expected to drop to a level where
the pump could draw in air. In this case, the suction shroud
has a foot valve with inlet strainer.
c) Pipe shroud
It is used when the pump is installed as a booster pump in a
pipe system. Pipe shroud types are only supplied with the
1216 and 1220 motors.
The suction and pipe shrouds must be carefully
vented during installation.
• After filling the motor, the suction shroud and the pump must
be filled before lowering into the well. This applies to pumps
to be installed vertically that are equipped with a foot valve on
the suction shroud.
The pump vents automatically.
• After filling the motor, the pipe system with pressure shroud
and pump must be filled. This applies to pumps to be installed
vertically that are not equipped with a foot valve on the pipe
system.
The pump vents automatically.
• After filling the motor, the pressure shroud and the pump, the
pressure shroud must be vented. An automatic vent device
must be installed. This applies to pumps to be installed
horizontally.
Flooding or filling of a shroud must always be performed
immediately after filling the motor. When the water is
temporarily drained from the shroud, the filling level of the motor
must be checked and water must be topped up if necessary
before the shroud is filled again.
The screw plugs for filling and venting the motor and the suction
shroud are marked accordingly.

4. Commissioning/decommissioning

4.1

Connecting the motor

Refer to the separate operating instructions for the motor.
4.2

Electrical connections

Only qualified electricians may connect the unit to
mains. The stipulations of VDE and of the local
power suppliers must be heeded.
• Fit the pump unit with a motor protection switch.
• The local mains voltage and frequency must match the values
indicated on the nameplate.
• Check whether or not the jumpers in the motor terminal box
meet desired circuit type and correct if necessary.
