Series SU8
• The motor must never be painted as this may negatively
affect the heat dissipation.
b) Installation in vessels
• For vertical installation in vessels, the same criteria as for
installation in wells apply.
• We recommend to fit a motor cooling shroud if the pump
is installed in a horizontal position.
• When the pump is installed horizontally and with a motor
cooling shroud, the minimum water level must be 400 mm
above the vessel bottom. When the pump is installed without
a motor cooling shroud, the minimum water level above the
pump must be dimensioned in dependence of the capacity
and the vessel geometry.
During operation, the lowest water level must be such
that the pump does not draw in any air.
• The pump is not suitable for completely draining
the vessel.
• Whenever the vessel has been drained
completely, the motor filling must be checked and
corrected if necessary (see the operating
instructions for the motor). We recommend to
clean the suction strainer and the motor surface if
they are heavily soiled.
• Connect the pump to the pipes without putting them under a
strain.
• Install the pump horizontally or at an angle rising towards the
discharge branch. A sloping position in relation to the
discharge branch is not permitted.
2.5.2

Supply connections

Check that the power and control cables required for
installation and operation are present in the required
configuration.

3. Installation

To ensure trouble-free operation, the pump must be
carefully installed by specialists. Errors during installation
may cause damages to material and injuries to persons as
well as premature wear of the pump.
3.1

Preparations for installation

3.1.1
Rotor rotation test
Check the pump rotors for smooth rotation before installing the
pumps. Pump units may only be installed if the rotor can be
smoothly rotated. To check, remove the inlet strainer of all
pumps. The now accessible pump coupling is fitted with bores
through which a steel rod or a hook wrench can be passed.
Return the inlet strainer when the test has been completed.
3.1.2
Checking/topping up the water in the motor
Immediately before commissioning, the submersible
motors must be filled with water. Make sure to heed the
separate operating instructions for the motor.

Vertical installation

• Prepare the required aids before starting installation:
- derrick or another hoisting device with appropriate lifting
height and capacity
- 2 installation clamps
- 1 assembly clamp if necessary
- cable clips
(available from the manufacturer).
• Heed the following factors when selecting the hoisting device:
- weight of the unit including the cables
- weight of the rising main
- for removal: additional weight of the water filling in the rising
main
• To detect cable damages right away, measure the resistance
at regular intervals during lowering.
• To facilitate installation, we recommend to fix a pressure
pipe of ca. 1 m of length immediately to the non-return valve
of the pump.
• Secure the threaded pipe joints against twisting (reactive
moment when the pump starts up) using securing screws or
other means to prevent loosening of the screwed joints during
operation.
• An installation clamp is used for lowering. Attach it to the
pump casing of pumps with flanges and to the first rising main
segment of pumps with threaded connection.
• The cable must be carefully rolled up or laid out during
installation (and also during removal of the unit) to prevent
damages to material and injuries to persons caused by the
cable being pulled ineritably if a pump should drop into the
well.
Make sure that no one steps into the rolled-up cable loop.
