Construction

See also the sectional drawings (section 7.2).
Pump and motor shaft are radially equipped with liquid-
lubricated, hydrodynamic sliding bearings. The axial forces are
compensated by the thrust bearing in the motor.

Installation site specifications

• Make sure that transporting the pump unit or its components
to or from the installation site is possible without any hazard.
• Appropriate lifting gear and attachment devices must be
available.
• If installation is to be performed by the manufacturer, make
sure that the installation site is empty and clean and that the
pipes and their accessories are in good condition and can be
easily accessed.
2.5.1

Installation requirements

a) Installation in wells
• Access to the inlet strainer must be unblocked.
• Ensure sufficient spacing between pump units installed next
to each other and operated at the same time.
• Center the pump units in the well.
• Filter pipes, if existing, must be installed at least 1 m below
the motor. This ensures optimum cooling of the motor and
prevents premature wear of the pump caused by increased
sand indraw.
• Make sure that the well is free from mud and sand deposits.
• Compare the well diameter with the maximum diameter for
the pump:
Minimum inner well diameter (clear width):
Al least 8" = 204 mm
Maximum inner well diameter (clear width):
Make sure that the flow velocity does not fall below 0.5 m/s.
Flow velocity calculation:
Q x
353 68
V
=

D
V = Flow velocity
Q = Delivery capacity [m³/h]
D = Well diameter [mm]
d = Motor diameter [mm]
The use for lower flow velocities is only permitted
after the manufacturer has been consulted or if the
contract documentation bears an appropriate note.
• Lower a dummy with the same dimensions as the pump into
the well for testing if the well is extremely narrow. This will
show whether or not there are bottlenecks, bends or other
obstacles that may cause the pump to jam. Also check (if
necessary, contact the manufacturer) the maximum flow
velocity that could be reached between the pump or the
motor and the well wall during operation. To compensate for
a possible flow resistance, increase the minimum water level
above the pump accordingly.
• Suspend the pump in the well with the lower edge of the motor
at least 1 m above the well bottom. Depending on the pump
size and on the amount of sand and mud in the water, this
distance may have to be increased to prevent the motor from
reaching into the often existing mud and sand deposits which
could cause overheating of the motor.
• The stagnant water level must be at least 2 m above the well
shaft, the dynamic water level above the suction casing; for
the latter, the NPSH value required for the pump must be
taken into account (see the characteristic curve of the pump).
• The maximum water temperature in the well must not
exceed the value specified in the contract documents.
• The motor heat is dissipated to the liquid via motor surface.
The use in media that bear the danger of deposits is only
permitted if this is considered in the contract documents.
