8. Install the Cement Board
CAUTION: Risk of personal injury. Do not install cement board on the wall rail mounting area on
the knee wall. The load bearing integrity will be compromised if fasteners are run into cement
board. Reference the graphic above for details.
IMPORTANT! It is critical that the desired placement of the hand rail, along with the tile thickness,
waterproof membrane thickness, and cement board thickness be determined before constructing the knee
wall. The framing must be constructed correctly for correct fit and finish of the final wall.
For front wall mount area, dry fit the cement board and confirm that the tile and mortar will be
flush with the front edge of the wall rail. Correct if required.
For flush top installations, dry fit the cement board and confirm that the mortar and tile will be
flush with the top edge of the end cap. Correct if required.
For overlay top installations, dry fit the cement board and confirm that the cement board is flush
with the top edge of the end cap. Correct if required.
