Operating Instructions for Multi-Clamp VC-M-V for Vacuum Operation
3.1

Safety information

General safety notes

 These operating instructions contain important
information on using the Multi-Clamp vacuum
clamping system VC-M-V. Please read the
operating instructions thoroughly and keep them
for later reference.
 The clamping system may only be connected and
commissioned after the operating instructions
have been read and understood.
 In addition to these operating instructions,
instructions must also be provided within the
meaning of the German "Health and Safety at
Work Act" [Arbeitsschutzgesetz] and the German
"Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health"
[Arbeitsmittelbenutzungsverordnung].
 General
safety
regulations
standards, including those set by the machine
manufacturers, must be observed and adhered
to.
 Installation may only be carried out by qualified
specialist personnel.
 Sudden vacuum failure may lead to hazardous
situations.
 The Multi-Clamp VC-M-V vacuum clamping
system may only be used for the purpose for
which it was intended.
 The clamping system may only be operated in a
sound, fully-functional condition.

Intended use

 The Multi-Clamp VC-M-V vacuum
clamping system is used for clamping flat
workpieces
during
manual
clamping system is attached by means of a
vacuum or mechanically using the threads/holes
provided in the base plate.
 The clamping system should be fixed to a solid,
secure and clean work surface.
 The Multi-Clamp system VC-M-V is designed for
clamping by means of a vacuum. However, it is
only suitable for clamping flat workpieces where
the contact surface must be two-dimensional in
design.
 The clamping of highly porous or uneven
workpieces can lead to a reduction of its intended
function and must be checked by specialist
personnel.
 Air or other neutral gases as per ISO 8573-1 are
approved as media to be evacuated.
 It is not permitted to apply suction to liquids,
corrosive gases or granulates.
 An appropriate filter must be used in cases of
heavy soiling.
3.2
Initial startup
 Ensure that the clamping system is assembled
according to the description.
 Place the clamping system on a solid, secure and
clean surface.
 Connect the Multi-Base to the vacuum generator
using the supplied hose set.
 Check that the manual slide valve is closed and
activate the vacuum supply. The clamping system
should have attached itself to the work surface.
 If the work surface is not suitable for securing the
clamping system by vacuum, loosen the supply
hose for the base plate (item 10) and attach the
clamping
system
to
the
mechanically using screws etc.
 Place the supplied suction plate on the Multi-Base
turn/swivel fixture as directed in the assembly
description and attach it using the clamping lever.
 Connect the base to the suction plate using the
short hose.
 The system is now ready for use.

Function and application

The Multi-Clamp suction plate is a plate made from
plastic. It is set down on and secured to the Multi-
Base turn/swivel fixture. Ensure that the Multi-Clamp
suction plate rests fully on the Multi-Base. It locks
into the appropriate position. Vacuum is connected
to item [2] using the supplied hose set.
 The Multi-Base should be secured by means of a
vacuum to a surface that is as firm and clean as
possible (see "Initial Startup").
 Make sure that all clamping levers are released
and position the Multi-Clamp suction plate as
shown in the above illustration and close the
clamping lever (item 6).
 To connect the Multi-Base to the Multi-Clamp
suction plate, attach the supplied short hose to
the Multi-Base (item 8) and to the Multi-Clamp
suction plate (item 7).
 The Multi-Clamp suction plate is secured to the
Multi-Base with the clamping lever (item 6).
However, it can still be turned.
 The Multi-Clamp suction plate is secured against
twisting using the clamping lever (item 5).

 The Multi-Base is secured against rotation using
the clamping lever (item 4).
 Connect vacuum to item [2] using the supplied
hose connection set. The holes on the side of the
blue body allow you to pass the hose through the
side.
 To replace the suction plate, remove the small
piece of hose from the attached plate and connect
it to the replacement plate.
 Opening the manual slide valve routes the
vacuum to the top side of the Multi-Clamp suction
plate. This vacuum is responsible for securing the
workpiece.

Clamping a workpiece

 Check the entire clamping system for visible
damage and soiling and deal with any problems
immediately.
 Check the available clamping area and the secure
positioning of the workpiece, both visually and
manually. It must not be possible for the
workpiece to easily move or detach.
 The generated machining forces must not exceed
the available clamping forces. In case of doubt,
select low operating parameters and gradually
maximize.
3.5

Cleaning and system care

The Multi-Clamp clamping system should be
cleaned regularly (wipe down with a damp cloth and,
if necessary, remove soiling).

Troubleshooting
Problem: No vacuum
• Check the connections.
• Check the whole system for leaks.
• Check the position of the sealing cord.
• Check the sieve on the vacuum vent for dirt and
clean if necessary.
• Knot holes in the workpiece can cause leaks.
• Porous workpieces are difficult to pick up (MDF
sheets, etc.).
• Ensure that the vacuum supply is secure, check
compressed air or vacuum generator.
