5.6 Temperature measurement

GB
The temperature measurement is not suitable for medical ap-
plications!
To prevent an electric shock, do not apply the temperature
sensor to objects carrying voltage.
1) Set the selector switch (10) to the position "TEMP". The am-
bient temperature in °F is displayed.
2) With the button FUNC. (9), select °F or °C (see reading on
the display).
3) For measuring the surface temperature of objects, connect
the supplied temperature sensor to the meter: connect the
black plug to the jack COM (5) and the red plug to the jack
INPUT (11) – not the other way round! Apply the sensor to the
test object.
4) If the reading does not change any more, read the tempera-
ture. The measuring range is -20 °C to +1000 °C or 0 °F to
1800 °F.

5.7 Checking batteries

1) Connect the black test lead to the jack COM (5) and the red
test lead to the jack INPUT (11).
2) Set the selector switch (10) to the positions "BATT" corre-
sponding to the rated battery voltage (1.5 V, 3 V, 9 V). The
symbol
3) Apply the red test prod to the positive pole of the battery and
the black test prod to the negative pole. If the poles are re-
versed, a minus sign will precede the measured value on the
display.
4) The battery voltage is indicated for the following load:
1.5 V range: approx. 50 mA;
3 V range: approx. 30 mA;
9 V range: approx. 12 mA.

5.8 Manual range selection

If "AUTO" is displayed, the optimum range for a measuring func-
tion will always be automatically selected.
1) To hold a measuring range selected automatically, press the
button RANGE (3). "AUTO" is extinguished.
2) Each time the button RANGE is pressed, the next higher
measuring range is selected. Thus, the resolution of the
measured value is reduced, however, with a measured value
fluctuating between two ranges, a constant automatic switch-
ing will be prevented. If the highest possible measuring range
20
is displayed.
