6.11. Measuring AC Current

WARNING
Deactivate the circuit to be tested before connecting it to the meter.
1. Connect the black test lead with the COM jack and the red test lead with the INPUT jack for current
measurements up to 200mA. Move the red lead to the 10A jack for measurements up to 10A.
2. Select the desired µ A, mA or A range with the range selector.
3. Press the FUNC. button to select AC measurement. Select manual or auto range selection with the RANGE button.
4. Connect the test leads in series with the load under measurement.
5. Read the measured value from the LCD.
REMARKS
• The LCD displays the overrange indication "OL" if the measured value is too high for the range you are using.
Select a higher range.
• Place the range selector in the highest position if the value to be measured is unknown beforehand.
• Respect the limit values
exceeded. The max. current for the 10A socket is 10A and this range is not fuse-protected.
6.12. Measuring DC Current (with optional clamp AC97)
1. Connect the clamp's black test lead with the COM jack and the red lead with the INPUT jack.
2. Put the range selector in the
3. Press the FUNC. button to select DC measurement. Select manual or auto range selection with the RANGE
button.
4. Connect the clamp with the circuit to be tested.
5. The measured value and the polarity of the red test lead are displayed.
REMARKS
• Use a DC clamp to measure DC currents
• The LCD displays the overrange indication "OL" if the measured value is too high for the range you are using.
Select a higher range.
• Place the range selector in the highest position if the value to be measured is unknown beforehand.
• Install the same range on the DVM860BL and the DC clamp. If the ranges do not match exactly, be careful not to
exceed the limit values on the DVM860BL and the DC clamp of your choice:
a. the sensitivity of the 200A range is 200mV, that of the 2000A range is 2V. The sensitivity of the matching
clamp should be 0.1A/0.1mV in order to make sure that the value you read out is also the measured value.
b. If your clamp has a low sensitivity (0.1A/0.01mV), the indicated value will be 10 times lower than the
measured value e.g. the measured current is 100A, then the indicated value will be 10.0A
c. If your clamp has a high sensitivity (0.1A/1mV), the indicated value will be 10 times higher than the
measured value e.g. the measured current is 10A, then the indicated value will be 100.0A
6.13. Measuring AC Current (with optional clamp AC97)
1. Connect the clamp's black test lead with the COM jack and the red lead with the INPUT jack.
2. Put the range selector in the
3. Press the FUNC. button to select AC measurement. Select manual or auto range selection with the RANGE
button.
4. Connect the clamp with the circuit to be tested.
5. Read the measured value from the LCD.
