Cleaning and Disinfection for V-Series Adaptor

The V-Series Adaptor should be cleaned regularly after each patient use. It is recommended that the V-Series Adaptor is
removed prior to cleaning and disinfection (see page 11 for instructions on removal).
Cleaning: The surface of the V-Series Adaptor should be cleaned with a mild soap or organic solution and water prior to
using standard disinfection solutions in order to remove gross contaminates.
Disinfection: All disinfection solutions must be properly diluted according to manufacturer's instructions. Please follow
standard institutional cleaning and disinfection procedures.
1.
The V-Series Adaptor can be disinfected using a wipe down approach with a 70% alcohol solution or bleach 1000
ppm.*
2.
Rinse with a wet towel to remove chemicals.
3.
After wipe down, dry surface with a towel.

Cleaning Procedure for Air Filter

The air lter should be cleaned weekly (or more often, if necessary). Wear recommended personal protective equipment.
1.
Remove air lter from rear of therapy control unit by pinching center of lter and pulling outward.
2.
Vacuum lter to remove dust before washing.
3.
Soak lter in germicide solution for 10 minutes.
4.
Squeeze out excess solution from lter.
5.
Allow lter to air dry completely.
6.
If air lter is ripped, torn or damaged, contact manufacturer for replacement
part immediately.

Institutional Cleaning (DMEs and Extended Care Facilities)

1.
Follow all listed procedures for In-Home Cleaning, with the following modi cations:
• Always follow Universal Precautions.

Handle soiled items as little as possible, with minimum agitation to prevent gross microbial contamination of the
air and personnel.
• Always add high-quality chlorine bleach (5.25% sodium hypochlorite) to laundry soap and water. Add 8 oz per
normal size wash load or 12 oz per wash load for larger loads (this applies to standard household size washers
using approximately 16 gallons of water).
• Disinfectants used for scrubbing surfaces should be a disinfectant solution made of EPA-registered high-quality
disinfectant detergent mixed according to manufacturer's instructions.
• After scrubbing surfaces with disinfectant, wipe surfaces with a damp cloth containing chlorine solution mixed at
2 oz of high-quality chlorine bleach per gallon of water to provide a nal disinfection.
2.
After cleaning and drying completely, cover the product with clean plastic and store in clean area.

Assembly of the First Step Select Therapy System after Laundering and Cleaning

For re-assembly after laundering refer to Unit Setup in the Preparation For Use and Patient Placement section of this
manual.
*Chlorine concentrations may vary from 250 ppm to 10,000 ppm depending on local policy and contamination
status. If an alternative disinfectant is selected from the wide variety available, Arjo recommends that suitability
for use is con rmed with the chemical supplier prior to use.
