Cleaning (Single Patient Use)

When blood and / or body uids are present, wash fabric items separate from family laundry and consult a
health care professional for proper use of the following throughout all cleaning procedures:
• Latex or rubber gloves.
• Plastic apron or gown.
• Protective eyewear.

Do not use petroleum based solvents or alcohol.
i
Chlorine bleach may fade fabric colors. Consult Arjo if there are speci c infection control concerns or other
issues regarding the use of bleach.

Infection Control Protocol

The First Step Select Therapy System must be disinfected after each patient use. Always use universal precautions,
treating all used equipment as contaminated. When performing cleaning and disinfecting procedures, it is recommended
that disposable gloves, an impervious gown or apron and protective eye wear be worn.

Laundering Procedure for Cover Sheet

Handle soiled items as little as possible, with minimum agitation to prevent gross microbial contamination of the
air.
1.
Wear protective clothing as described.
2.
Launder cover sheet in washing machine according to the following instructions:
• Spray heavily soiled areas with stain-removing prewash spray. Follow container directions for use.
• Set machine temperature on warm wash, using the longest wash cycle. Select a cool or cold water rinse.
• Add measured high-quality laundry detergent and allow machine to ll with water. (Follow directions on detergent
box for speci c washer size to follow washing machine manufacturer's recommendation).
• If chlorine bleach has been recommended by a health care professional, add 8 oz. of high-
quality chlorine bleach to the laundry soap and water.

Do not allow concentrated bleach to contact fabric as it may result in discoloration.
• Add soiled cover sheet.

Do not overload washing machine.

Wipe the top of the washing machine, lid surfaces and inside the rim with a disinfectant to ensure clean laundry is
not recontaminated.
4.
Remove protective clothing if used. Discard or clean according to instructions from health care professional.
5.
Wash hands before handling clean laundry.
6.
Remove cover sheet from the washer after full cycle is completed.
7.
Place cover sheet into dryer.
8.
Tumble dry on warm or low heat. Do not use high heat.

Keep dryer temperature below 140° F (60° C).

All items must be completely dry before removing them from the dryer.
9.
Remove cover sheet from dryer and store in a clean area.

Laundering Procedure for Overlays, Mattress and Tote Bag

Overlays should be laundered monthly (or more often, if necessary). Wear recommended personal protective equipment.
