7 Inspection and maintenance
If it is not very dirty:
>
Flush out the fins of the heating element using a
water jet.
b
Caution!
Material damage caused by improper
installation!
Installation and maintenance work that is not
carried out properly may cause material dam-
age.
>
When carrying out installation and mainte-
nance work, make sure that no compo-
nents are damaged or bent.
If it is very dirty:
>
Use a soft household brush to clean the fin block. If
possible, clean the fin block from the top down in a
basin of water to remove any grease and dust.
>
Then rinse the heating element under flowing water.
If the dirt contains oil or grease:
>
Clean the heating element using detergent in a tub of
hot water.
If there is lime scale:
>
Use a standard decalcifier. Follow the instructions
supplied.
b
Caution!
Risk of damage due to wrong tools!
Wire brushes or other similar hard brushes
may damage the unit.
>
Never use wire brushes or other similar
hard brushes to clean the unit's heating
element.
i
Depending on the water hardness, we recom-
mend decalcifying the water used by the
heating element.
i
Cleaning can lead to slight wear on the coat-
ing. This does not impair the function of the
heating element.
i
When fitting the heating element, make sure
the burner chambers are aligned centrally
below the heating shaft.
i
Do not forget to plug the safety thermostat
back in.

Repairing damaged coating
Small scratches or chips on the coating of the heating
element can be easily touched up with the Supral pen
(spare part no. 990310).
The damaged area must be dry and free of dust and
grease.
>
Shake the Supral pen vigorously before use and then
apply the coating material in a thin and even layer.
i
The coating dries in the air and requires no
further treatment. You can operate the appli-
ance immediately after coating.
7.4
Checking the function of the water circuit
breaker
Regularly check the water circuit breaker for dirt or lime
scale.
>
If there are accumulations on the membrane disc pin
or if the stuffing box leaks:
Use the suitable repair kit.
7.5

Checking the flue gas sensor

The gas instantaneous water heater is equipped with a
flue gas sensor. If there is a problem with the flue sys-
tem and flue gas enters the room, it switches off and
seals the appliance.
Always check whether the flue gas sensor is working
properly after any inspection or maintenance work. We
recommend using the Vaillant flue gas fan, which is
available as a spare part (no. 990301). The operating
manual supplied describes how to use it.
This is how to do it:
• Block the flue exit.
