Intuitively correct: foot alignment
A further important aspect for an optimized foot position is the heel angle resp.
the foot alignment. The foot should be parallel to the cranks / the bicycle frame.
Small variations to this are personal preference. The correct position can be
easily found when the forefoot follows and touches the bent inner stop of the
pedal.
People who have knee which bow outwards (bow legged) will be more
comfortable with their heals turned slightly inwards. For people with their knees
close together (legs forming an 'x' shape) will be more comfortable with their
heals turned outwards slightly. If you have other alignment issues, problems
with your joints or biomechanic issues then it may be necessary to position
yourself differently on the bicycle. If this is the case, we recommend that you
contact a bike fit specialist as this falls outside of the framework of the
guidelines which we are able to give in these instructions.
