2.3 DESCRIPTION OF THE AMPLIFICATION STAGES
The Profiler unit is comprised of 3 amplification stages: input dynamics, cluster amplification and final gain.
These 3 gains are included in the automatic phase of the self-alignment and they can be modified manually
by the user. The self-alignment function allows maintaining the noise figure to be as low as possible and it
aligns the clusters for the maximum output level.
The first stage of amplification of the UHF inputs is named "DYNAMICS IN" and it can be changed from 0 to
20 dB; the amplification works on the whole 470÷862MHz band of the UHF input that is being programmed.
This is to be used to get the best noise figure for the UHF input relevant to the input signal levels.
The second amplification stage concerns the single cluster that is being programmed, or "CELL GAIN" and
this is adjustable from 0 to 20 dB. For example, if you are programming the cluster number 5 with a start on
the channel E48 and the end on the channel E52, and you set the cell gain 5 at 15dB, there will be an incre-
ase in the signal level of 15dB only on from channels E48 to E52. This is to be used to equalize the clusters'
output level.
For the B.III+DAB+FM, there is an adjustable band amplifier (one on each input) with a gain that can be
adjusted from 0 to 20 dB.
The last amplification stage is the "FINAL GAIN," which can be adjusted from 0 to 20dB. It works on all the
headend unit inputs either on the UHF inputs and B.III+DAB+FM input.
2.4 REMOTE POWER SUPPLY
The headend unit can be used to remotely power supply the mast pre-amplifiers, if any, or other remote ac-
cessories. By programming, it is possible to select the remote power supply voltage either at 12V or 24V with
a maximum current for the UHF inputs of 250mA@12V or 100mA@24V (to be intended as the total addition
of the UHF1, UHF2 and UHF3 inputs).
All remote power supplies are protected from short-circuits to safeguard the internal feeder.
