Attaching the car body support on the front and rear:
•
Attach the carriers for the car body support with the edge (plane side up) to the differential
box and screw them tight.
•
Screw the car body distancer bolts tight with the support on the carrier.
•
Adjust the height of the bolts to the car body shape by moving in the support of the body
and fasten them by tightening the screws.
•
If necessary, adjust the position of the support on the mounting.
•
Apply colored chalk or slow drying paint on the edges of the car body support and place
the car body as exactly as possible on the chassis.
•
Remove the car body again and drill holes into the car body at the places marked with
paint (chalk) for the car body support.
•
Use a special car body drill.
•
Determine the position of the antenna tube on the car body and drill here also a hole for
the antenna passage.
•
Make openings for the starter cord, the tank shutter and the cooling head.
Handling the car body
•
Cut the car body carefully along the outlines. We recommend that you use curved scissors or a knife with a very sharp edge (e.g. knife with cutter bla-
de).
•
Smooth the borders of the cutting edges e.g. with a file and a fine sand paper.
•
Depending on the paint used, the inside of the body can be polished with damp abrasive paper of grain size 400-600. Do not polish the window sur-
faces!
•
Rinse the inside of the body after cutting work (if necessary) and after sanding with soapy water. Otherwise, the paint does not adhere and peels off.
•
Do not use solvent-containing detergents as these can cause the discoloration and the alteration of the material.
•
Dry the body e.g. with conventional lint-free paper towels; let the body dry completely.
Painting
•
The inner side of the car body should be painted. The transparent material of the body gives the outer side a high gloss sealing effect.
•
Remove the protective film from the outer side only after having painted the inner side. Thus, you prevent dirtying or scratching the body.
•
Do not use solvent-containing varnish (e.g. auto varnish). The latter do not adhere to the body. Only use special, not fully hardening Lexan or emulsion
paints.
•
If necessary, observe the safety instructions included in the manuals of the paints you use (e.g. how to remove paint residues from fingers/hands etc).
•
If you use pressurized dispensers or an airbrush system, work in well aerated rooms or outdoor only.
•
If you wish to paint outdoors, make sure that it is not windy, that the temperature is moderate and the humidity low.
•
Atomized sprays are harmful to health; use an appropriate inhalation and eye protection.
•
At your workplace, cover everything that will not be painted with the same color as that of the car body.
•
Excess atomized spray can stick to objects or in the environment. For that reason, do not paint in the proximity of precious objects, devices, tools or in
the proximity of your car.
•
Use appropriate masking tape in order to cover the places (e.g. windows) which should not be painted or which will be painted in a different color.
•
Make sure that the body is completely dry and free of grease.
•
Wash you hands thoroughly before painting. The color does not adhere on greasy finger prints.
•
You can carry out a drawdown on the already cut surplus pieces of the body. Thus, you can determine if the paint peels off and if sanding is necessary or
not. If you wish to use various colors, a test allows you to determine if the colors are compatible with each other.
•
Use, preferably, paints from the same manufacturer.
•
Incompatible paints might cause cracks in the lacquering, the paint might peel off or might cause the discoloration of the transparent car body.
•
The expenditure of time of a test because of the waiting time that is necessary for drying can prevent that an expensive body becomes unusable.
•
Let the paint dry for at least one day.
•
Afterwards, apply a coat of white varnish over the coating on the inside. This increases the luminance/brilliancy of the used paint and protects the paint
from fuel or oil stains.
•
Carefully remove the covers over the windows.
•
To tinge the windows, there are special colors, for example, "smoky black".
•
Once the coating is dry, use e.g. petroleum ether to remove the adhesive tapes.
•
Remove the protective film from the outside of the car body. Avoid leaving finger prints on the body as otherwise the adhesive labels will not adhere
properly.
The decorative patterns are glued on the outside of the car body.
•
Moisten the car body and the decorative patterns with a light washing-up liquid before placing them.
This gives you some time to reposition the decorative patterns and to flatten air bubbles.
•
Fine details such as window frames, door sections or borders can be drawn with conventional decorative strips or waterproof markers.
