Functional principle

4.1

Screwing on a blind rivet nut

Ensuring it is straight, set the blind rivet nut against the threaded mandrel 1.
It is advisable to screw in the blind rivet nuts manually by around a ½ turn to make it
easier to insert through the threaded mandrel 1.
Start the screw-in sequence by pressing the switch 9.
Hold down the switch 9 until the screw-in sequence is stopped automatically. While doing
this, hold the blind rivet nut secure against twisting during the entire screw-in sequence.
The blind rivet nut must be correctly positioned on the nosepiece 2 after the screw-in se-
quence. Otherwise, correct the setting of the threaded mandrel length (see Section 3.2)..
Caution: If the switch is released prematurely, the nut will be screwed off again.
4.2

Manual screw-off of the blind rivet nut

If, for example, the blind rivet nut is screwed in at an oblique angle or if the thread of the
blind rivet nut is faulty, the blind rivet nut will not be correctly fitted to the nosepiece after
screwing in. In such cases, the blind rivet nut can be unscrewed again and changed by
tapping the switch 9 very briefly. You are advised to stop using a blind rivet nut if it is
damaged.
If the setting force selected is far too high for a particular nut size (incorrect setting),
this may lead to severe deformation of the blind rivet nut and the nut thread, which in
turn leads to extremely high screw-off forces. This may mean that the threaded mandrel
cannot be unscrewed using the FireBird
overload. The overload is indicated visually as error message „E3" on the display and by
a rapidly flashing light ring. In such cases, the battery must be removed. After that, the
threaded mandrel must be unscrewed manually. To do this, insert the WAF 4 hexagon
screwdriver into the hexagon socket at the rear end of the tool and carefully loosen the
threaded mandrel 1 by turning anti-clockwise (see Figure 5).
After screwing off the deformed nuts, the battery is reinserted. Press and release switch 9
to revert the tool slowly to the front end position in a slow reference run.
The last value set for the tensile force is shown on the display again.
Caution: Set the correct setting force now (see Section 3.3).
