4) Besides the usual buzzer signs while actuating
the rotary switch and especially with continuity
check there is a special warning signal in case of
the following incorrect operation: If the special
10 A jack is used with the measuring cable but
the corresponding 10 A range has not been cho-
sen. So damage can be avoided, e. g.: If after a
high current measurement a voltage measure-
ment is intended, and the rotary switch has been
set to voltage, but the measuring cables have not
been rearranged.
Note: Due to the high input resistance of the multi-
meter in the 400 mV DC voltage range it is normal
that with open or not connected measuring cables
the display shows any arbritrary measuring values.

Setting into operation

The multimeter is switched on by turning the rotary
switch away from the OFF position. If there is no
display (short display of all facilities for a moment),
at first insert two 1.5 V, AAA batteries. For this open
the multimeter:
Remove the two screws at the rear and fold away
the cover carefully to the right. Now the batteries
are inserted in the battery compartment accessible
now while watching the polarity indicated there.
Then the multimeter is closed again.
Now the multimeter can be switched on with the
rotary switch. The black measuring cable is con-
nected to the COM (-) jack common for all
measurements, the red measuring cable to the
V.Ω.mA jack. Only for current measurements above
400 mA and up to 10 A the red measuring cable
must be connected to the special 10 A jack.
