Measures in the event of malfunction
(troubleshooting)

11.3.1 Electrical faults

- Check the mains connection. Is there voltage on the
mains socket and is the mains cable inserted
correctly? If faults also appear on other devices,
problems on the mains can be assumed. First remedy
the causes of such faults.
Check the fuses. Remove the mains plug of the device.
Only then open the right side door. The fuses are
located to the left under the plate that holds the main
circuit board. Defective fuses are recognizable through
discolouration and melted filaments. Use fuses of the
same type as installed at the factory.
If you cannot put the shaker into operation
afterwards, notify the responsible service
representative of Sartorius Stedim Systems GmbH.
The service telephone numbers can be found on the
next page.

11.3.2 Faults in the shaker drive

If the shaker drive runs eccentrically or jerkily, the
drive belt may be dirty. If the shaker table does not
rotate although the motor is audibly running, the
drive belt may be defective. If the drive motor does
not run when the supply voltage and all the requisite
pre-settings are correct, the motor may be defective.
If the drive belt is damaged (ripped) or a defect of the
motor or the drive controller is suspected, notify the
responsible service representative of Sartorius Stedim
Systems GmbH.

11.3.3 Malfunctions of the equipment option with cooling
unit
The compressor of the cooling unit is equipped with
internal winding protection that opens when a specific
winding temperature is exceeded. It can take up to an
hour before the winding protection closes again and
the device continues to run.
If such shutdowns become frequent, notify the
responsible service representative of Sartorius Stedim
Systems GmbH.
Due to the long, uninterrupted running time of the
device and at relatively high room humidity, ice can
form on the evaporator (icing).
Icing of the evaporator reduces air circulation.
This causes triggering of the integrated overtemperature
protection and the device switches off.
Let the device acclimatize for some time before putting
it back into operation.
11.3.4 Malfunctions in CO
- Check the gas supply and all supply lines.
- Change the CO
bottle if the gas pressure is too low.

11.3.5 Humidity malfunctions

If there is not enough water in the water pan, the
CERTOMAT® CTplus issues an alarm with a
corresponding fault message.
- Fold the front flap underneath both glass doors
downwards. The front flap is fixed by magnets. The
water pan is located behind this flap.
- Pull the water pan forwards and fill it with sterilized,
distilled and pre-heated water (at approx. incubation
temperature).
- Push the water pan back in and close the front flap.
